Nature helps with dead pest cleanup

Saturday evening I eliminated a groundhog at about 85 yards and was waiting to collect in unnoticed. I don't believe many neighbors would care but I try to keep it on the D.L. since I still live in the city limits. I was planning on collecting the body today, but It was being taken care of by nature. I looked out the window to see 5 big turkey vultures had found it and were making a quick meal of him. There is a big flock (between 50-100 vultures ) that roost about 350 meters from my house. I have shot other pest like squirrels and birds, but I have always had to go get the body. I guess they like stinky groundhog. Hopefully these birds will check this area more often now and I will help keep them fed.

Yup, they're a bit faster than maggots too! I've noticed that the deer in my yard will tolerate almost any critter around them while they are eating except for a possum. I guess they just don't smell that good. They will let the raccoons almost walk underneath them, and will feed right a long side of the gray foxes, but when the possum shows up they get agitated and watch it restlessly as they move away.

"ChrisLJ"I believe those are probably black vultures, since turkey vultures have a red head. Whichever, vultures are one of my favorite birds, and it's a sight to see them in large numbers during their spring migration here in my area.

You are right those are black vultures. There are also the red headed turkey vultures present but just not in photo.
