My Unicorn

My New little 177 Wildcat, Unicorn is really starting to settle in. I had to back off the hammer spring just a bit to slow it down from the 955 fps it came set from the seller, but it really likes where it is now.
These are both 8 shot one hole at 30 yards. Fairly calm day and about 45º. Unsorted JSB 10's. The other groups you see are testing other pellets to see how they group. It is obvious it likes the JSB's the best.

I was lucky enough to have someone help me acquire a Bushnell Engage Tactical 4-16x44 (hope that is right). Love the fine x-hair and the glass is very clear. I might say even more clear than my Sidewinder. And that is saying a lot. Pretty sure I'm going to be looking for another one to go on my 25.
I'm hoping to get a little time this week to get out to 50 and 100 yards and just see what happens. I know a tiny 177 is going to blown around if it is windy. But we'll see what happens. We may all be surprised. Sort of like I was when it shot the 8 grain pellets over 1000 fps. And just for fun I tried them at 30 yards to test accuracy. Guess what? At that moment in the "break in" of the gun, it actually shot much more accurately with the 8's than it did with the 10's. Now that may not be true since the reg is breaking in. But I was sure surprised to see a one hole with 1000 fps. :)

Yes I have a couple of pics Matt. The 177 is a rarity thus the name. These aren't the best pictures, but you can at least see the smile on its face :) Looks like I need to hurry with the workbench remodel. Too much stuff in a small place ..

crusher. The accuracy of the little .177 is really looking good. Do you by chance have any of the redesigned JSB 13 grain jumbo monsters? Will be interesting to see how it handles them. I have been wanting to make a dedicated 25m gun out of the 177 wildcat, but just been putting off ordering it. Was wondering if the X-barrel would show up. Was told that it wasn't going to show in .177 and that the Wildcat II X-barrel in .22 and .25 only had the last couple of inches rifled like the smooth twist but have not been able to confirm that yet. sylvan

I do have some of the 13 gr pellets. This gun shoots them at about 865 where it is set right now. Somehow, they just don't group as well for me. I might be able to move the fps up and down and find something they like better. but then again I think that if shooting the 10's is this accurate, do I really need to shoot the 13's?
Something else I noticed about the 13's. They bind a little bit going into the breech. Any pellets I try in other guns, that bind on the way in, never shoot well. The 13's do shoot fairly well, but the bind still gives me the creeps every time I charge the gun.

And as for the x-barrel, I think this barrel that comes in the gun just loves the 10.3 grain JSB. I mean it stacks them. I didn't get out to shoot at all today. Can you believe SNOW in Houston Texas? Really? Come on mother nature.
So I didn't get to test any further. But we have 60's coming in just a couple of days so when I do get the info, I'll share.

I'm hoping this is going to be my 25m gun. Maybe a little FT HV as well. But I have got to get out there and practice my ranging and holdover stuff. Not to mention finding a way to shoot seated that works for this old pair of knees. :)
