My RAW 25Cal HM1000X Sporter Update

Just an update on my RAW HMX Poly barreled 25cal. I've had this gun about two months now. At first I thought I'd got a lemon. 1" to 1.5" groups at 50yds not matter what I tried. I visited back and forth with Jim at Precision Air Gun, Martin at RAW, Mark with RAW and Ken Hicks who is now with RAW. Everyone was surprised by the groups I was getting. Ken's opinion was to just shoot it and get it broke in with a couple of tins of pellets. On this particular gun cleaning the barrel opened the groups up and after 40-50 pellets the groups would tighten. So now after no barrel cleaning after about 400 pellets it's shooting like a RAW should. So for my learning's on this particular gun is to shoot a few tins through it and don't clean the barrel so often. It's shooting the Heavies, MK1's at 890fps. The group attached (5shot) along with a couple of gun pictures was shot with head size sorted and weighed pellets at 50yds with a 5-7mph right to left breeze partially blocked by my yard fence and hedge trees. I was really stoked after this shooting session yesterday evening. This is by far the best groups I've ever shot. So yeah I'm tickled with the RAW.

Nice summary Jimmy. Beautiful rifle and excellent shooting! On my PCP's I found 2-3 dry patches pulled through did the trick. No brushing and never any solvents. Finding the timing interval for barrel cleaning is definitely the key. My BSA R10 liked 2-3 dry patches pulled through about every 100 shots or so. Sounds like yours will be much higher on that Polygon barrel.

"Ranger08"Great groups.

I have a RAW .30 and learned quickly that I was cleaning too often. The gun does shoot well "dirty." I haven't figured out yet at what point I really need to clean it.

When the groups start to open up again, you clean it, shoot until it tightens back up. Enjoy!

Nice looking gun Jimmy. You really got a great looking stock on that one. Nice shooting too. Very nice groups.

Thanks guys for the compliments,

ncrary, it comes set up to shoot the Heavies, I think that was the design idea behind the poly barrel and high power valve set up.

Glem.chally, when I purchased I really liked the looks of the thumb hole stock but this is what Jim had in stock so I jumped on it and haven't been disappointed one little bit.

Chasdicapua, I really prefer shooting out to 75 and 80 at the house. Here recently though it's been one front after another blowing through and screwing that range up. Man I'd love to find an indoor 100yd range....Now the time change, barely light when I get home from work..
I'll post some 80 or 100 as soon as the weather lets me..

Thanks again guys..
Jimmy
