MTC Rapier ballistic rangefinder review

I present to you the MTC Rapier Rangefinder. This rangefinder is a little different than most of the others I've seen in that it utilizes a ballistic calculator on your smart phone or smart watch to calculate your point of impact for you, literally! It speaks to you through your smart device or through the included bluetooth earpiece.
Pretty cool!
Thanks to T3Pranch Airgun Solutions for getting this one to me!
Here's a video on it. Hope you enjoy!
Happy Shooting,
Tom

Very interesting Tom, I'm surprised it doesn't have a click up or down feature too. Won't be long (just a matter of time) until MTC develops a scope that does it all, reads the distance and adjust your reticle to that distance. Someone recently posted about a bow sight that actually does this. They are definitely on the ball with their optics technology. Nice job on the video and thanks for sharing.

Nice review!
It seems to me that they missed out on adding a feature to complete the ballistic calculation package. The weather data it can download of the net doesn't include prevailing wind data for your given area, having that with the addition of some sort of built in compass to get the direction you are pointing the rf should give a windage calculation in the app. I realize that windage can alter depending where you are situated, example open field or heavily wooded or hilly/mountainous area but it seems like it would have nice to have that option.

There were a couple other small criticisms that I had but cant seem to remember them at the moment, though all in all its a pretty nifty piece or gear.

It does! That's in the "RF units" settings. It will tell you how many clicks to adjust depending on what scope you are using.
0.1, 0.2 mil clicks
1/8, 1/4, or 1/2, MOA clicks
As well as hold over/under in mil, MOA, inch, centimeter.
Unless your talking about motorized turrets that integrate to your scope. No, it doesn't do that! lol

"dirtbikerick"Thanks Tominco, I really enjoyed your review, the data entry part seems a little overwhelming for me but I admit I'm not that very technical when it comes to even using my own computer, I can see that there will be a learning curve to setup correctly but what isn't these days. Where do you live?, it looks like Sonora foothills to me.
It's really not that hard to do. I was trying to illustrate that there are steps to be taken in order to make it work at its maximum potential. When you take your time and set it up right, it's worth it.
Southern Colorado... "Tom-in-co" ;)

"Chachoze"Nice review!

@Chachoze - I wonder if adding a feature like that would run the cost up too much and/or run the batteries down faster? Or, maybe they just missed it like you said. They sure put a lot of other features in this little gadget.

I forgot to mention that the reticle can be changed as well.

There's a third option as well. I'll have to try to remember to get a pic up for you guys.
Plus, all those symbols are telling you info without the voice prompt. the second pic shows yards, degrees up or down, vibration (on), bluetooth connected.

I guess for this younger generation all this seems like a natural progression, to me it seems like if God had wanted you to fly He would have given you wings. You young woopersnappers don't seem to realize that when I started driving a big truck from the east coast to the west coast ... we used to carry a bag full of quarters ... because there was no such thing as a cell phone, every truck stop would have about a hundred pay phones so the drivers could get directions ...when I was a kid there were only 3 channels on the TV and all of them were network channels, every house had a huge outside antenna on the roof, no cable channels and all in black and white. There was no such thing as space travel, no microwaves, no computers, no tubeless radial tires, the only music in the house came from a radio or 45 rpm record players, no CDs, no air conditioning, no dishwashers. When we got a long distance call from Grandpa, mom would always be right beside us shouting "HURRY UP ... IT'S LOOOOOONNNNNNGGGG DISTANCE" When I got out of service I was making $1.25/hour and if I brought home $40 a week I was in hog heaven ... and now ... now we have ... talking range finders that does everything except pull the trigger for you .... Oh Lord, methinks I have lived too long. Long gone are the days when I used to walk 3 miles to get to school through the snow ... uphill both ways.

Tom ... I thought about what you said in your post ... about embraceing new technology. In fact, I went to sleep last night thinking about it and had the worst nightmare I've had in many a moon. I thought about the pros and cons of the issue and have come to the conclusion that it's not worth it. Bad things happen when I embrace new thechologies, my first transistor radio fell in the bath tub with me shocking the snot outta me. It's like a dark cloud settles over me ... a vortex and a whirlwind created by the powers that be from the foundations of the earth suck me up into the new possibilities of what science has created ... but the natural universe around me goes rabid and things start happening all around me that shows that I have thrown the entire universe out of kilter.... golf ball size hail begin to assault half the continental United States, the stock market collapses, depreciation of money begins, depression follows, the government will no longer be able to give out all these benefit programs, economic chaos ensues, homeless people will start flocking to the farmlands looking for food only to be butchered for trespassing, their bodies left to rot in the fields. Carrion will abound. Disease will spread from the rotting corpses and be spread to cities all over the world by packs of wild dogs. Cougars, mountain lions and rabid skunks will roan city streets attacking whatever they can. People will shoot at them in the darkness only to miss and end up shooting each other. Nuclear fail safe systems all over the world will get screwed up, guidance controls will fail, the missles will begin flying and exploding in random patterns all over the globe. Bombs will hit the North Pole, the polar ice caps will melt causing flooding and destruction of all coastal cities. Sharks will roam the warm waters flooding downtown San Francisco feasting upon Armani clad venture capitolists and lawyers. Dormant volcanos will be triggered. Earthquakes will bring down all the tall buildings in all the cities crushing the public and killing millions with glass shards. Nuclear holocaust will lead to martial law and vigiliantism. Containment systems for chemical and biological weapons will fail and horrible disease and nerve agents will rapidly spread everywhere. All babies will be mutants. All women will become bald. True zombies will roam the earth howling at the moon. It is the end of civilization as we know it. When I awoke the last thing I remember was the combined voices of millions of victim screaming "WE ARE ALL DOOMED!!!!!" The wife said I was sweating all over the bed screaming at the top of my voice "It's not my fault, it was Tom ... Tom in Colorado ... he did it!!!"

I'm so sorry that I prompted your nightmare! 😳 Good LORD! All that happened in one nights dreaming? I think you might have a hyperactive disorder during sleep! Please apologize to the wife, cat, dog, parakeet, neighbors, and anyone else that might have been affected.
I thought about what I wrote too and sometimes it's best to just stick to what you know. Read that again and hopefully you'll sleep better this evening. :)

Question: is this just for air guns or does their calculation app cover firearms as well? Given that it ranges out to 1,000 yards I'd suspect so but just wondering. This could be my 'go-to' ranger finder for plinking, hunting with air guns and firearms. Heck, I could get windage in the duck blind even. I know some view this as cheating and I get that. I'll never use a range finder fly fishing for sure but then I am not taking d a destructive shot. Kentucky windage is fine for targets, but real animals deserve your best humane shot. Humane kills require precision and with better precision, you have more humane kills and are less tempted to push the edges. Or she the money and take fewer shots when they are marginal with 'Kentucky windage'. Good to have option and we get to choose.
