mrod or disco

So I'm back again facing the same problem. Getting the disco with extra money to spare or getting a .25 marauder that would probably Have to be filled with a hand pump. I would like to know what you think I should do. the game I'm looking to hunt would be rabbits and starlings and other smaller small game and pests.

Thanks for your help

Well after I got my disco with the pump, it worked perfectly fine for hunting. But if you start shooting paper a lot more it can start to get pretty time consuming. And as for the Marauder with a 3000 psi fill its even going to be harder and you will probably start searching for an air tank pretty fast. And if that's not a prob then most of it boils down to what distance do you want to shoot. My disco at forty yards is about its max accurate range for hunting. Marauder is going to stretch your yardage out some more.
you may also want to look into the Hatsan AT44 QE, just a suggestion,

If you want a quieter, repeating, and more powerful airgun the M-Rod. If you're fine with a loud single shot and cheaper gun go with the Discovery. Accuracy will probably depend more on you as a shooter than the gun itself. The Discovery is easier to fill if you're using a pump. But the M-Rod has a lot more advantages, hence the higher price.

You can always quiet the disco down with an ldc. You can also mod the disco to have a mrod breech and shroud, but with a 2000psi fill. I would say disco, because of what you are hunting, and the ease of use, unless, of course,my ou stumble across a deal like I did. Mrod .22 gen 2, 2 mags, pump, 2tins of pellets, and a very nice scope for $300. I took that deal the second I saw it.

I would lean heavily towards the disco if you are sure you are going to be using a hand pump. The maurader at a full 3000 psi fill only gets you 16 good shots in .25 and pumping up that high is hard work. It is also very hard on your pump so you might be fixing it often if you shoot a lot. Both are great guns but the maurader is really designed for tank fills.

I bought a .25 Mrod 3 years ago, as my state was on the verge of allowing airgun hunting. Then they limited it to .177 & .22 calibers only. I bought all the stuff to make my .25 a .22. Then they said: "moderated airguns are the same as silenced firearms, and are therefore ILLEGAL." So for the last two years I've hunted with springers while the Mrod sat in my gun locker. I did take it out once or twice without the baffles, but accuracy suffered. This year I bought a Disco, though it was late in the season so I didn't actually hunt with it. I will say that I don't think the Disco gives up much to my Mrod in actual performance (at least, not in .22 caliber). Furthermore, the Disco is significantly lighter and more maneuverable I the field. It's lower fill pressure gives me a LOT MORE fills from my scuba tank, and really doesn't yield any fewer real usable shots than the Mrod. The Mrod's multi shot capability is great, and sometimes I really miss it, but for hunting I find that the single shot Disco (much like my springers) makes me more cautious about the shots I take and forces me to really make them count, which kinda makes me a better hunter, I guess? So I guess it really comes down to what you want to do with it, how you're planning to fill it, and what the laws are where you live (hopefully not New Jersey like me!). Punching paper from a bench or competitive target shooting: either will do, though the Mrod might do it better (.177 or .22, obviously...I don't imagine many people shooting FTT with the .25...insert European gasp here;)). Smashing squirrel in the field: I'd go Disco with a nice scope for the same money as a naked Mrod. A .25 will hit harder, but the .177 & .22 do just fine dropping squirrel, rabbit, birds, and even big guys like groundhogs!

I have the mrod .25 and it has been an excellent pesting rifle. On a recent sage rat trip to eastern Oregon, I took out squirrels consistently past 100 yards. I have it tuned down to just under 900 FPS. That let's me get 3 good clips (24 rounds) before I pump it back up to 3100 psi. I haven't shot the disco but I don't think you can go wrong with the mrod.

"Duckenn"Adding the hammer debouncing device gave me the best jump in shot count. Help quite the gun down as well.

You say tuned DOWN to 900 fps??? Do you mean 800 fps as that seems to coincide with the shot count, you report, much better. I have my Synrod @ 800 fps and after hours of tuning am able to get 30-31 shots inside a 22 fps ES. Just curious, about your comment as my gun with the spring mods minus any porting would reach a maximum of 892 fps and lost accuracy at that speed.
