Marauder .22 barrel

Recently I purchased a .177 cal. Marauder love it accuracy is great. So I seen on one of the forums I read that I could change to .22 with just a few parts which I ordered from Crossman. Installed with no problems, start to tune it in and accuracy was all over the place best I could do was 1.5 inch groups and a lot of fliers. Tried 10 to 12 different pellets best one was Benjamin pellets. Couldn't get accuracy to what I wanted changed barrel back .177. Accuracy is back to what I like one hole at 35 yards. Have any of you guys had any problems with crossman replacement barrels. I feel sure I did everything could to get it to function properly chronograph reading on .22 were promising at first but every now and then would drop from my average of 835 to 802 down to 624 614 really strange.

You might check the o-ring in the breech end of the barrel-if it's missing or torn you might get air blowing out the breech which will wreck your velocity. Also, did you push any pellets through the bore and inspect to see if they were damaged? It's not uncommon for there to be a burr in the transfer port hole which can deform pellets as they pass over it.

Thanks John for the information on removing the burr. That is done burr is gone, waiting until the flu bug is done with me to continue. I am confident this will be the thing I missed, if this works me being new to airgun game what Fps should I be looking for was I correct with 835 to 821 or so. Or should I go a little higher? Shot counts are not as important as accuracy for me.

I don't have a lot of info on ideal FPS for you, you'll have to figure out what works best for your gun. My .22 Marauder has been detuned to around 22 ft.lbs. It shoots the JSB 18.1s very accurately at about 750 FPS. It came that way from previous owner and I am leery of messing with a good shooting gun so it will stay that way! A well tuned gun should climb a bit in velocity to a peak and decline form there, ideally with not too extreme of a difference (say 20-25 FPS) from low to high. The longer the distance you are shooting, the more critical the spread in velocity will become. Here's a video on tearing down a Gen 1 Marauder, the presenter explains a bit about what the different adjustments affect.

Hey guys did everything I could think of with .22 barrel. I guess when you to admit defeat bite the bullet ( pellet) and reorder another barrel. By the way little lady at Crosman instructed me that by returning barrel could gotten replacement for free, but like I said I try everything which may have include stuff that they wouldn't approved of. So that being said barrel should come in soon and I will start over, keeping fingers crossed for a good accurate barrel.
I want to thank you all for ideas and information I have received, kinda having fun with all this tinkering.

Hey thought I would update my post on my barrel problems. I received my new barrel from Crosman today, placed it on my gun and shot at 35 yards first five shots I knew my problems were over. Grouped within half inch with first and only pellet I tried, you see it is dark outside I used one of the sidewalk lights to see target lol. Ended up using the 18.1 JSBs shot 20 shots all total moved the scope right and up got last 10 shot bullseye. Could cover them with a nickel. Tomorrow I will zero it in better and chronograph, tuning it in. I want thank everyone for their input.
