My patience finally paid off!

Just got what I think is an awesome deal on a Weaver Tactical 4-20x50 FFP Mil Dot. $500 shipped and it is apparently "like new". This scope usually sells for $800+ so if I haven't just been scammed then it's going to be epic.

This is the one I have been waiting for. The one with everything I want (well almost everything anyway).

According to the reviews, the glass and build quality is comparable to the Leupold MK4. It has side focus down to 25 yards but can be used down to 5 yards on 6x or below (apparently). Mil dot reticle. First Focal Plane. Reset to zero lockable turrets (that work properly). This is Weaver's top product.

Against all odds, I think I might actually be excited about a new scope.

Will I finally be able to say "this scope is great" without adding the caveat "for the price"?

I look forward to your review !

The 'new' Weavers are aiming high (no pun intended), the company lost it's way a little a few years back (it had been a Family firm, in the 60's) I hope they can get back their great reputation.

=================================================

Incidental historical note: When it was a Family Firm they were the first US scope maker to invest in the machinery/technology to make spun alloy tubing (which all makers now use) and they looked at using various 'composite' and Polymer materials in their scopes - sometimes without realizing or accounting for 'long term degradation' (they were matched in this by many, many businesses in the exciting new world of the 1960's).

As bad language is not allowed in this site, I am going to replace bad language with the word "popcorn" for what I am about to say.

um hum.

The filthy mother popcorn who was selling the Weaver scope on Amazon has cancelled my popcorning order for "technical reasons" whatever the popcorn that means. I'm really popcorned off about it because I'm back to square one again. Sellers like that make me so mad... I should take that scope and shove it up his popcorn!

arghhhhhhhhh popcorn popcorn popcorn!!!

We'll see. I just found another one on Amazon but this time the seller I ordered it from has 159 positive reviews on his profile instead of that rather concerning "just launched" label.

I still hope that other guy is getting viciously scope popcorned in the popcorn hole for his crimes against scope buyers. Scope buying was already brutal enough without that kind mind popcorn.

I'm going to hold off on being excited until I see a tracking number this time.

Yeah it sucks big time.

why the popcorn do people put up listings for stuff they don't have and then wait a week to tell you....

These people should be burnt and forced to walk around looking like Freddy Krueger so everyone can see them as ugly in the outside as they are on the inside... or something.

I'm never going to find my reasonably priced 4-20x50 FFP mil dot am I....

They don't have auctions on Amazon as a far as I know.

As far as I can tell now, there are two separate scams going on with the too good to be true priced goods on Amazon. One I posted about already in the general section here. The other I noticed a few days ago.

Basically, the scam is that they get you to contact them to ask if the price is real. They then use the opportunity to persuade you that they can give you the best deal if you do the sale through email instead of going through Amazon and incurring their fees. Once outside the relative safety of an Amazon transaction, they proceed to take your money and disappear. They then open a new Amazon account and repeat.

Basically, there is no such thing as a great price on Amazon. If you can't find a similar deal on a used product on eBay then it's a scam.

The scope I wanted to buy for $500 is never ever sold for less than $690 used or $700 new.
