I had a little time home, and between honey do's, I did this

. Stripped the soft touch finish off the serpatia, ran dark walnut, wiped that out and went with watco walnut oil. Finished with 3 coats of satin urethane.

How did you strip off the original black paint without damaging the laser engraved checkering?

Thanks Dan! Azur,... I used a spray on stripper and then wiped it off with denatured alcohol. It took several coats and wipe downs but does a great job and no damage to the details. Then light sanding as needed with 320 and final with 600 grit.
