Insurance. Umm.....waddaa u mean...

alright I should have been thinking and had a better answer than that .I live on the North Shore Boston and work out in The suburban area. Weston Newton out there been looking for some permissions ..so I can go out and pest. so I see this greenhouse with all this area all these plants tons of land.. got to have pest there there so I go in and start talking to the owner the conversation turns to the plants and how he's having some of this plants destroyed at night and I asked him do you think I can come out and eradicate some of the pests..his respoce was what insurance do u have.. I didn't have an answer well I didn't have a good answer.. so the question here is Insurance how do you get it ..I think I read somewhere with the Brits got some kind of insurance program that they belong to it was called BSA something or otother ..any other guys run into this at all... or is it all done on ones reputation and good word good faith please let me know Pat

I think the other aspect of your post regarding how to obtain permissions is also very thought provoking. Personally, all of mine are based upon personal relationships or those of close personal friends. Even so, in my state, you are required to have the express written permission of landowners prior to engaging in any hunting/pesting.

I have never attempted to seek permission from a total stranger, which I could imagine, presents additional challenges. I think much of the reaction one would face is the lack of general understanding by the public about airguns and their use. The other reaction, would likely be the owners' lack of personal knowledge/experience with you as a person, in terms of concepts of safety, responsibility, good judgement, ethics, etc.

I had not previously contemplated insurance until I saw your post. I think that is short sighted on my part knowing the vast change in how litigious our society has become, as well as the dramatic increase in power over the last 15 years in my airgun collection. Looking at the premiums stated in the NRA site for insurance, it's about the same (probably less) as my monthly budget for pellets. I intend to look further into that.

Hope to see a very robust discussion on this topic as a whole - the insurance part as well as the art of obtaining permissions from people you don't know.

mick va your so right on all acounts..all of us need to not only put protection in place, but think it through,, i for one know theres been many many airgunners before me ,that have made our sport ,,hobby,,what it is today hard work and dedication through there action have brought us this far....i would never want to be responsable for staining or dirtying our hobby..i always take extra precautions while airgunning,,,but things happen ..i would hate myself if i ever was resposable for injuring someone theyre home or property.i would also hate myself if i was to loose my home for not be vigilant .and doing what i presume is right.protecting myself and others,,,maybe we at air gun nation could get together and see if its worth getting a group policy,,,,idk the particulars or if its possible but i do know we need to do whars right stand together and find a solution
