Impact Tuned by Ernest

Just got my Impact .25 back back from Ernest. Nothing to say except he took it from very good to great!!! I was really impressed with the polishing and TP enlarge that he did. It's an object of beauty! Thought I'd post a before and after pic and be off.

In addition to that I got smoother recycling, smoother pellet entrance to breech, (even with the JSB Heavy MK I), and more power at the same setting. I'm hitting a high of 884 fps with the reg pressure just under or at 150 bar on MAX. The gauges are off by a little so don't take that as gospel a reading. Before, I was getting about 860 fps, maxed out. Only got a chance to zero and shoot a quick series of targets the other night but saw one hole groups and no "flyers" with JSB Heavies, MK I. Looking forward to getting back to it and at distance.

I think I made a good decision sending it to him....now I can get down to some serious shooting!
Cheers,
KP

I sent my .25 impact to ernest at the beginning of the month. I cant wait to get it back. ernest tuned my vulcan in the past he does excellent work. I wont send my guns anywhere but to him. Id send mu gun to him before sending it in for warrenty work he fixes it right and makes it better than they could ever do. You def gotta get back with shot count and long range results soon man. I might wanna have this done to my impact!! Hes supposed to start working on it monday hes been backed up.

Hey Wyominal,
I'm anxious to get some distance targets going myself.
The weather has been clear but quite windy and now it's going to rain the next few days ...plus I've been tied up with family matters which need my attention.
I finally got out this morning and decided to see which power setting works best for groups. Since the tune I have significantly more power to play with and I think 880+ fps might be getting a bit fast for these JSB's. After testing all morning the dark clouds and wind moved in. But I was able to determine that the A setting is best with three 5-shoot targets averaging a group size of 0.279" with wind, an average velocity of 869 fps with JSB EK Hevy MK I. I tested Max; 5,4,3, A, B, C. I'll be checking sot count as soon as I can.

I'm pretty sure that enlarged TP gave me the extra velocity.

Cheers,

I got out yesterday but it was a little windy. My goal was to see which power setting would make for the best groups. At first I was going to go with "A" but setting "B" gave more consistent and tighter groups at 50 yd. Setting "B" corresponds to 850 fps and I've had luck at that speed before but of course before it took setting the gun to MAX to get 850-860.

Wish I could tell you the group sizes but I left the targets up out in the field and of course it stormed so nothing left. But when I was shooting yesterday, it looked to me like 1/2" give or take. The cold front passed through and it is calmer today than yesterday so I'll try to get back out there today and get measurable groups.

Made it out today and had about an hour before storms rolled in. Winds were light there but kinda squirrel-y. Shooting into the wind with it coming across about 15 degrees to the left and behind the target.
Shot shot several 5-shot groups on setting "B" at 50 yards.
Most of the groups were about 1/2." One was 3/8" and my best of the group was 5/16" which for me is excellent. So. I'm staying at "B." I was hurrying to beat the storms so maybe had it been a nice calm, unhurried day, I might have been more consistent, but those are good groups.
.
I didn't get a chance to do a shot count at the B setting but the other day I got 4 magazines before hitting 150 bar on the bottle gauge on the A setting. So that's 64 shots on a fill for .25 cal. It will be higher on the B setting.

The enlarged T.P. hole allows me the same velocity now at 2 lower settings so naturally the shot count will increase (and has) as a result.

Hynzie,
I can't tell you what to do but I think you might want to check the gun out first....what if you get a real sweet one?

Anyway, I spoke with Ernest the other day and I am re-tuning the regulator a bit to compensate for local barometric pressure. differences. So my comments above are now moot. Starting over with things. Ernest "massages" the rifle's inner workings but you are still going to have to fine tune when you get it back. It's all about temp and pressure where you live. Matt Dubber has an interesting Impact tuning video worth checking out.

I wanted to follow up with results from long distance shooting. Winds and weather have not been cooperating but the other day I got out with light wind and shot into it. Decided to go out to 50M rather than 50 yd. (roughly 55 yd). I have to say these are my best targets yet for the Impact since the tune, with JSB EK Heavy.

Very happy with these results. The 1st target was 5 shots and I pulled one but 4 went into one hole measuring 1/4"!!! The second target had a pulled shot as well so I added an extra shot so 5 shots into a hole measuring 5/16". I think the wind died for just a few minutes to get these two. I had other targets not this good but they averaged only 1/2"
I'm waiting for a dead still day to try 100 yd. Oh, the bar reading was for the regulator...Check out Matt Dubber's video on Impact tuning.

And finally...the winds died down and I was able to shoot a target at 101 yards last night. shooting off the bipod with a rear bag o some of my abilities came into play. If I had the rifle on lead sled then maybe the results would be better.
One target was at 2" exactly then I weighed enough pellets to shoot 15 shots. All were within .02 gn. I had one flier (or pulled).
So not including the pulled shot I got 14 shots in a group measuring 1.64".....If I include the pulled shot then 1.885." Good for me and much better after Sending it off.

I'm happy with this ....some others might not be but either way if that was an animal at that distance all of the shots would be kill shots.

Guess that's it..
