I Have Had Enough Wind To Last Me A Lifetime !!!

I live in the high desert in the Lancaster area (no real choice of my own, but that is another story). The wind never stops and in the last month or so I can barely get out to shoot. Many times, it takes me 20 minutes or so to get off one shot and many, many times the wind is so bad it will blow my chronograph off its stand. Sometimes early in the morning before 7ish the wind is not blowing and I can get off some shots. I have been trying to shoot this whole week when it cools down (around 6:30 pm or so) and the wind is still blowing .... it sucks ! Any animal shot would be just luck in this wind and the wind is blowing my sight picture all around and the distance you need to aim off is not consistent, it would be grossly unfair to shoot something in wind like this when you are much more likely to wound them ... not very cool at all !.

I hope the wind is way down tomorrow morning ! Right now the wind is just about blowing my trees over !

I shot a video about 20 minutes ago on the place I do a lot of shooting ... you can't shoot in these conditions ! Tried to upload it and I can't ? I'm not a video guy at all.

WLL, yeah i'm out in Victorville the wind out here sucks too. But in the morning its pretty decent until the sun starts to bake the earth then the wind picks up. I'm going out to shoot at the West Adelanto Range in the morning around 630-7, and i can shoot until 10 before the wind become too much. I even shoot scope can without much issue. If you wanna come out let me know, and bring 10 bucks. I usually have the range all to my self until 9 a.m then MAYBE one person may show up. Going to be doing some pellet testing.

I went out this am and not a drop of wind, it was great.

Going back out later today. Thanks for the invite but I usually stay pretty close to home and don't =drive to much.

Hope you had a good day.

Well went shooting this afternoon ... why bother......the wind twice blew my 22 caliber Condor SS off my truck bed top .... I was very lucky to catch it on one occasion, a gust came up and lifted the gun off the truck bed ....... on its way down to the ground I snatched it ... it touched nothing ! (I made up four letter words and cursed mother nature !!!) The other time I had the gun on the truck bed, in my hands and a gust blew the gun out of my left hand hand but my right hand was on the grip so it did not fall. This is the same type of wind that is in my video post above !

On top of that I had a shot at 20 yards, yes 20 yards, on a decent day I could have hit him with a spit wad ... but with this wind .. a miss. I had a few 60-62 yards shots ... pellets were all over the place, there was also a real good downdraft ... I was P%@%%D !

I'll be out at 5am, usually it is quiet at that time of day !

Was out at 5am .. very nice, listening to the sounds of nature.

I was up to my ears in Borrowing Owls .. these were pretty fat little guys and there were a couple of families out there ..mom and the babies. I went out to retrieve a target and dad/mom was maybe 7-10 yards away, he/she just yelled at me ;- )

Had one shot at a GS, come to fine out I'm shooting a good 3 inches low at 60 yds, made the adjustment and now I'm OK. Sighting in at 20 yards and checking the charts of where you are gets you close, but a difference of an 1/8 inch at 20 yds, depending on your barrel to scope mid line will make a difference at 60 yds for sure.

Found another area just down the road, a good amount of Jacks were seen running around. I need to get a "Yote" call as I'm sure they are around there.
