I am a firm believer that we as hunters need to put the quarry down as quickly and painlessly as possible. Look at the kill zones for your quarry and ensure you are familiar with each animal. If you cannot hit a coin from 25 yards away practice and ensure you can before taking longer shots.

Wow good shooting. How did you get that gun to shoot so well. I have the NP trail XL in 22. (Early model) I Put in a new trigger and l can't hit beans unless it is real close. Now it just sits. My RWS 34 is a tack driver but no where near as powerful. But at least I can hit my target. Maybe I need to try a heavier pellet? Once again nice shooting and good advice.

Hey Critta,

Thanks for your comment... I built this with 2x4 and those flexible garage hangars that they sell at Home Depot and Lowes. I think the brackets are about 5 bucks a piece usually metal with black hanging mounts. I use the ones that are flexible mind you it takes some pulling to get them to move but they fit the rifle snug. I then shoot at a large box and without moving the gun adjust the turrets so that the reticle points directly where the pellet hit. Works every time for me.

"Alan"While I agree we should do our best to reduce pain and suffering of intended hunting targets, I'm not a member of the SPCA! So if a coyote, fox, or some other predator is eating my chickens, I really don't care where they get hit.

Amen to this!!!

My flock went from 30 hens I am now down to 4 because of foxes. I killed one but there are two others still around. 

Kill them any way you can.

I think we have to recognize that there is a big difference between shooting for sport or the pot and pest control. Animal predating your livestock? Got to kill them. However, it's always best to do a humane kill. They don't tend to get away if you hit them right. Sucks about the chickens. Night sight would be nice. Then, not cheap.

Hope you eliminate the problem soon.
