HW 50, 80, or 95? Opinions welcomed. Thanks.

Hey guys, starting my search for a hunting break barrel air rifle and would love to hear your thoughts. I have done some research already and have narrowed it down to these 3 models. I'm looking specifically at the HW80 Long range hunter, HW95L Field Pro, and the HW50S Hunter. My wants are: More accurate than powerful, Least hold sensitive of the 3, .22 cal, As quiet as possible (the 50 and 80 are available with silencers), Not too heavy. I'm looking to hunt small game from squirrels to rabbits, maybe some birds. I have never owned a high end Springer so anyone with experience in these models would be appreciated.

I have a Beeman R9 in .22which is basically the same gun as the HW95. It has taken countless ground squirrels and rabbits and I find it a good balance of power and weight. I have shot The R1/hw 80 and the are nice but heavier than the R9/HW95. I have shot the HW50 which felt nearly as heavy as the R9 even though it's less powerful. I'd go for the HW95 or the HW50 due to weight. If you're a big guy it won't really matter.
As far as being hold sensitive, don't overthink it, just shoot a lot with one gun and you'll find your way.
Good luck,
John

The 50 is lighter but also less powerful than the 80 or 95. The 95 field pro has a moderator as does the 50S Hunter and 80 long range Hunter. Looking at the specs the 80 is heavy.

I have a Diana 48 in .22 and wanted something lighter and easier to pack around, my choices were narrowed down to a RWS 34 and the HW95. I couldn't find the 95 field pro without a scope and found a deal on the 34 so I bought it. No regrets.

"jimbo1947"The field pro is more than $500. The 34 is very comparable for little more than half the price.
Yes the Field pro with a scope is $550 or so, I didn't want the "package" scope and no one had the gun (no sights) without the scope. Midway USA had the 34 on sale for around $255. Mine was a blem (beat up box) for $216, it was $233 to my door after I donated $1 plus the change to the NRA. I can put a spring kit in mine and have about the same money as the rifle from PA costs shipped.

According to A.O.A. the 95 Field Pro come with a muzzle weight and not a moderator like the 50S Hunter or 30S Urban Pro unless this is a misprint on their part, however the images they provide it does not look the same as the moderator on the other two rifles.Taken from the AOA webpage on the 95L Field Pro.
It is delightful and second to none for consistency and control at this price point. Included and factory installed is a smooth muzzle weight that adds balance and flexibility as a handle to grab while cocking.
I also agree that I wish these models were offered as rifle only without the scope.

If you don't want the sights you can take them off and put a muzzle break on, the internals are the same. Take a look at the HW95 Luxus, it has a really nice stock, and the very nice non fiber-optic open sights might grow on you, especially if you get a rear peep sight.
