How to catch a group of pigs

My dad and his friends used to make rectangular traps using stock panels and angle iron. One door in that was set on springs and spikes that crossed on the inside to prevent reopening. That trap was moveable with a four wheeler. Caught lots of hogs on farms that way. Another trap was stock panels supported with rail road ties with a similar spring door, though that one was stationary.

If you looking at actually controlling feral hog's you need to target the entire sounder and not just an individual pig or two. Rod Pinkston of JagerPro in the US has created some very innovative control methods that range from night hunting with thermal scopes to remote controlled trap cages that can be monitored over the internet and remotely release the capture door.

I've known Rob for a while now and if he thought air rifles were worth using, he'd be using them as his business is hog control.

I'm not knocking hunting of hogs with air rifles as there are multiple people that have/will hunt individual hogs with air rifles successfully on a single animal. However, as a method for controlling feral hog populations, they are not an effective despite what the hunting shows want people to believe.
