How much are you paying to refill your tank?

7 dollars at local dive shop... BUT...

I wish I was more informed, especially when you lack HPA experience as I do. It costs 7 bucks to fill carbon tank to 4500 PSI. BUT when I get home and as the tank continues to cool (all that warm pressured air), it's more like 7 bucks to fill it to 4100 PSI. 

My experience after dropping some serious dough for a HPA tank, is that retailers should tell you this stuff. I found out after the purchase. Sadly, now I have to leave my tank with the filling vendor for the day, which is more than I originally signed up for so I can get my moneys worth.

How do I convince my local dive shop to fill to 47-4800 PSI as you are doing? Is this something they would be concerned with doing? Isthmus safe?

This is something that they have always did, I did not have to ask them.

Dive shop charges $8 for 4500 fills from empty or anywhere in between. They fill it in a water tank to help keep it cool. My 74 cf cubic foot tank ends up with 4300 by the time I get home with it (about 40 minute drive) and stays there. 3K fills are $7 but when I took my scuba tank in last time they filled it up to 3K from about 1900 and didn't charge me anything for it. They said "that's just a top off, no charge". Nice people, I'd hate to lose them!

This time I took both tanks in and they filled the cf tank from about 2800 to 4500 & the scuba from about 1800 to 3000. The charge? $7 TOTAL! I actually think he overcharged 'em a little bit because when I got them home I had 4500 and 3000psi. Man, I hope these guys never go out of business!

I just found a dive shop that will fill my tank. 15 dollars to fill to 4700 PSI. When I get home it settles down to 4500 PSI. Sweet.

I used to fill at a local paintball shop for 10 dollars, but find they were reluctant to fill my tank at times. He claims I deplete all his air and it hurts his business. I now give the dive shop my business. I was told by someone on another forum that dive shops have better dryer filters which sold me on paying more. Less condensation entering my tank.

Vince, would that be a dive shop in Indianapolis? Only one left now as I recall and they would not fill mine over 4500k or top it off. At $15 and 2.5 hour travel/ turnaround wait time that lasted about 3 fills before getting my own compressor. A complete rip-off in contrast what most places around the country seem to charge.
