Help - Remove Crosman's Plastic Muzzle Brake?

trying to decide whether to remove the plastic muzzle brake/cocking aid on the end of my Crosman break barrel rifle. It's one of those glued-on deals - no grub screws or other hardware providing attachment to the barrel. IIRC, carefully heating the barrel below the brake has been used to break the glue's hold on the barrel after which the brake can be pulled off. I have no experience with this kind of delicate work. Can the Collective here provide encouragement, counsel, profound discouragement, or any kind of input that will help me figure out my course of action? In particular, is there some other proven method to remove the plastic brake without risk to the barrel (or my homeowner's premiums)?

I removed mine as well, just warmed it up and pulled it off. Why remove it? It's plastic and stupid looking IMO. Not sure why it would be harder to cock on mine it added maybe 2mm to barrel length. This is all assuming you mean this part.

Thanks for all the input, fellas. Here's some answers to questions you've asked:
  • I want to remove the cocking aid in order to install a true moderator/LDC. My reasons are really my own... suffice it to say that this is a 'project gun' and I have a vision for it.
  • This particular version of the F4 has absolutely no need for a 'cocking aid'. With the de-tuned gas spring factory-installed from Crosman this rifle is under 18 lbs cocking effort. I can literally shoot this gun for hours on end without significant fatigue. Moderator or not, I will have no problems breaking the barrel over.
  • @glem.chally, yes that is exactly the part to which I refer in my original post.
Again, thanks for the input. I'll put some of your suggestions into play and see what develops.

I.just yanked mine right off. If you have a hair dryer laying around it should help. You could just cut it off with a razor blade. There isn't any threads or anything under that plastic. It's a faux break, just a 5c piece of plastic to give the illusion of a break. There is no flat spot or threads under that plastic bit. It didn't aide in cocking at all, in my case it was a hinderence, it would slip around while cocking, so I yanked it off and threw as far as it would fly

My F4 has one of those too.

does help a little with cocking, but not enough to deal with the ugly, as mentioned. and it has NO affect on the gun's report. Sprayed mine with black flex seal (yes Phil Swift stuff) that at least made it easier to grip......

Have been thinking of putting a much lower power ram in it and chopping the barel a bit......
