Hand pump vs Compressor!!

Thought I would put this out there as I wait for my compressor,
I have a Benjamin hand pump and I thought for the fun of it and the knowledge I would see what it takes to pump up a 90ci Air Venturi tank, well I'm up to 600 complete pumps(up and down is 1 stroke) and I have just hit the 1200 psi mark on the pumps gauge,I'm not in good health by any means due to my Heart Disease but slowly I'm getting it pumped up so maybe by the time my Compressor gets here I'll have this small tank filled hahaha.
So guess what I'm saying is if you don't have someplace to fill your tank/tanks close to you a Compressor or Booster is the only way to go,don't care how healthy a person is it will take a very long time to pump up a small tank, I'll see where it sits at 900 full pumps then at 1200 and so on just so those that never have done it can have a idea of what it takes just for a small 90ci tank...carry on.

You say you are in poor health?????? Pump up that tank everyday and you will be either broken or toughest guy in the neighborhood! Pumping tank from 0 psig will take a long time. I would consider myself in decent health...... If I pulled that off I would be WORN OUT! I admire you for giving it a go. Running my Shoebox compressor from 3000-4500 takes a hour. You will appreciate a compressor either way!

I'm at 900 complete pumps now and it's starting to feel like my Marauder at about 2200 Psi and I know its not that close let me look....about 15-1600 now, I weight about 250 so will see what happens, I'm not going to brake any speed records that for sure but I have this vision of me trying to sit on the handle to get it down hahaha, I'll keep you all informed as I continue on this dumb quest as I wait for my compressor and let you know when my weight will not do it or when it just gets to hard.........

Pumps are not all the same, not even the same models preform the same.
You did pick a large job just for some fun.
My original FX gen 2 pump it took right at 500 strokes ti fill a 490cc rig from empty- not counting 10 pumps to pressurize the line.
Next FX gen 2 the gauge was off by 60bar ( ya buddy!)so I accidently filled every rifle to 260bar.
Now as a back up and just to show new people how easy pumping is I have what looks like a G6 but came out a year before, very easy hand pump, easiest I've had.

Technic is everything and your weight should really help, only push down enough to lock your elbows then (fast) drop all your weight on the handle, easy, at 135lbs no issue. Now if you have a really bad back, forget it.

You sound like the type who will have a really good time with your new utilitys when they all arrive.

"jfrazier30"I'm betting your hand pump will die before you finish filling that tank!
You know I'm starting to think that,I'm up to 920 pumps and just tipped 1700 psi, think I'll need to find a seal kit before I'm done. I'm doing 20 full pumps at a time and only when I feel up to it,will see how far I get today.
Definitely a good workout for the Benjamin pump.

I'm at 1,100 full pumps and it's at 2000 psi, its starting to get a bit harder on the down stroke but it seems the tank is filling up with fewer pumps, I'll see if I can get another 100 or so pumps in it tomorrow and see where it's at. BTW I'm doing 20 full pumps at a time then resting that's why it's taking so long,ya my health plays heck too.

My AV Compressor can't get here quick enough.

Update, I'm at 1,600 full pumps and it's now between 200 bar and 3000 psi so 2900 psi it is,the Benjamin pump is still going strong and now it's getting to where I need to use my weight to bottom out the pump, I'll still keep going and see at what point I need to stop or the pump stops me hahaha......Rumor has it that some AV compressors are getting sent out....

Here it is..............Forgot my Benjamin pump only goes to 3600 psi..........Also my new .25 Marauder came today........

I pump the Benjamin 1,820 complete pumps and ended up with 3500psi and decided to stop after I remembered my pump only goes to 3600psi and I wanted to be on the safe side, my pump showed 3500 and the AV 90ci tank showed about 3480-90 but it was only about 1/64th away from 3500 so any guess is a good one. At about 3300psi the outside palm of my hands we're getting sore so I used my leather work gloves to finish..I guess I went as far as I dared to go with a New Pump and Tank.....I'm Happy but I'll never do it again well maybe,I'm looking at buying another pump like the Hill or AV that goes to 4500psi and have that for backup at my camper if my tanks get low and leave the Benjamin at home where my New AV Compressor will be.

Yep,they say if ya never have done it, don't want to hear it. Well I've been there an done it.......Looks like the AV Compressors are trickling in so I hope I get a email stating mine is on the way shortly.......I did order another hand pump today to have out at the camper, wasn't a 300.00 Hill but close only 200 bucks, supposed to be a step up from the Ben.

I used to pump my first air rifle and pistol. I hate to pump anything up to 3200 psi but you will not reach 4500 psi with a pump. You might reach 3500 but that's about it. It will take a lot of weight and power to get that pump down or up for that matter. Good luck, but don't hurt your self. Rather wait for the compressor. It will make you feel so much better than that stupid pump.

Good luck
