GOT HIM! Caught the insulation eater!

Hey guys,
So for a few weeks now my warehouse workers have complained about something eating through the bundles of insulation that we sell. Naturally I go to inspect the scene of the crime and sure enough, insulation was all over the floor of one of the storage sheds! I do some investigating and find some larger tracks that look like possum, raccoon, or even rats (big ol'south Boston rats) so this morning I came in early, set out a chunk of leftover chicken in the middle of the shed, and waited.

This guy trotted right out to it about an hour later like it was an all you can eat buffet. (Last meal in his case)
I was seated about 25 yards away, Discovery was bench rest on a picnic table and I put a .22 JSB 18.1 right behind his eye and he didn't even twitch, just went right to dirt napping. Pretty impressed how a well placed shot with this rifle can drop even pests this size!

Thanks guys!
-Pete

Bummer he cost you money!! Opossums are actually pretty good to have around aslong as they aren't being the pest, they're pretty territorial and will eat roaches along with other bugs and kill rats.

I have a few in my area that clean up my yard when I shoot the chipmunks, moles, or the occasional rat. shot, leave it for the night, gone tomorrow:D

Glad, he won't be causing you anymore problems tho!

Trust me Ezerhoden, that was the moral quandary that almost made me pack it up and go home! I know that the rats will most likely move in now that he is gone, but the amount of damage that he caused (chewing holes in the walls, the merchandise, and stinking up the whole shed) was too much to let slide this time. Maybe the rats will move in and I'll just HAVE to buy a night vision setup hahaha. Like I need any more excuses to spend money on this hobby!

Great shot. I have stealthy opposum that craps in my breezeway every night and drives my dog nuts, so the dang dog pisses on the opposum crap to mark his territory. Bad part is the dog is a terrier that sleeps ten feet away and won't kill the opposum for some reason. I probably have 10-15 living on the property but don't want to kill the all for one bad one.

Was camped out in my back yard for 3 hours tonight watching a Raccoon steal my rat bait... I'd have popped him but I know he was only enticed by those yummy table scraps, who could blame him! He gets to live until he causes problems. but now I'm thinking I need a night scope, was using my night vision to spot glowy eyes, then spotlighting so I could see through scope, no rats :(

"pulps"I just use my home security system and set up some IR illuminators. The whole back yard is lit up on my cameras. I use a red light attached to my rifle. This beats sitting and waiting. Can watch TV and monitor the yard from the comfort of my couch! Heres one I observed a few weeks ago. This one was harmless. It didn't try to dig so I left it alone.

Cheater!!!

Theres a huge family. Or many families. My entire side of the block has a large wall that goes along the back and those vines you see in the picture grow the whole length. There is an alley (not accessible by people) behind the wall (the wall is about 15 feet tall) that runs the entire length that is nothing but shrubs and brushes. All my neighbors complain about the oppossum and some of them say they have taken residence under their homes and sometimes die underneath causing a terrible smell for weeks. I see them in my yard every single night. It's rare but on occasion i've seen a family with 2 or 3 babies scrounging around my yard.
