Gamo Urban .22

ok I love the Gamo Swarm and its my first air rifle so now I want to go the PCP and I like to start with the Gamo Urban around here there's I'm the only one that's knowledgeable (somewhat) on air rifle and no experience with PCP. I am wondering how easy to pump the Gamo Urban with a 3 stage air pump mind you I'm 130lbs

 Welcome Farrah!
I'd be willing to bet you're pretty fit after your hitch in the Marines, so I'd bet you can handle pumping . The Gamo Urban has a pretty small tank (good) but a relatively high working pressure at 3300 psi (maybe not so good).
I don't use a pump myself so I don't speak from experience-what I read is that the Hill pump is the easiest to use.
Another very pump friendly series is the Benjamin Maximus or Discovery which use an operating pressure of around 2000 psi.
I'd lean towards the Urban myself due to it's BSA barrel. Just looked at Pyramyd Air's site and they have it for $299.
Good luck and keep us posted
PS-One thing a lot of folks who use pumps do is to shoot for a dozen or so shots then top back up with the pump rather than taking the pressure all the way down and having to fill up completely. There are some videos out there on using a pump to fill.

I've got an Urban. It is a far better shooter than I am. I top it up every 20 shots. I got a hill Mk4 pump with it (Airgun Depot deal) and it's not exactly fun to pump up, but it's not that much effort. The only time it's real work is when it's close to the top. I'm about 200lb and I really have to lean on the pump to get it down. Is it the best PCP around? Probably not. Is it better than I am? Yep.

"farrahUSMC"thanks John57: That was my intention find out the power curve and top off instead of refilling from empty. I was researching into 3 and 4 stage hand pumps but I will graduate towards carbon fiber tanks eventually gotto do baby steps ya know.
If you do get the Urban and a hand pump I'd really be interested to know how rough the pumping is. I've thought about PCP but could never see paying a lot for one of the electric pumps. So please send feedback. Happy Shooting

Serems the gamo is covered.
Dont get too hung up on " 2 stage, 3 stage, ...., blah" these days ( and since they came out) all pre-charged hand pumps are pretty much the same esp. from just a pumping point of view.

I have had the yellow hill, black "AF" FX gen 2, currently a $100 Chinese ( and a 4,500 scottpac) the first one cira: 2000 was SLIGHTLY more difficult to use, all others mostly the same.

At 135lb's NO issue using a hand pump even on first fill on a 490cc tank and certainly not with just top off's. I know a Feild Target shooter who intentionally pumps during the shoot trying to increase his heart rate.

Pumping is 99% style,, lift handle, push handle down just untill your elbows lock then drop 100% of your weight on it with arms locked. Yup that easy.
The only pump "I": had that was junk was the AF.

Lot's of good fill informtion in the compressor section.

Hi Farrah,
I have a few CF but also picked up a Hill MK4 pump for backup. Like everyone said, it is a workout but not hard to use at all. But I gotta say it does seem like it took forever trying to fill an empty Pony CF tank. Long story.. It was dare I couldn't back down from. Anyways, go slow using the full range is best. The pump will get hot, it's normal.. Just let it cool down if it gets too hot.

I too purchased a gamo urban after researching a ton of guns. I had it for about 2 hours before realizing it wasnt for me. I think it is a great gun but honestly i just didnt see the quality in it and i got my Mrod for 100$ more. A marauder would be the best starter/hunter/paper puncher and so on for the money in my opinion and ive shot air arms, and Fx, and air forces many times. Gamo is great for some things but I just dont think they can hold a flame to what crosman offers with the Mrod especially for the .25 with the green mountain barrel. I bought mine soley to hunt past 50 yards and it doesn't disappoint. Hope that helps !

the gamo urban shoots 800fps my modded 22 Mrod shoots 880-918fps(15.9 grain)for 30 or so shots.i think the urban is under powered if it even makes 800fps,and that would be with 14.3 grain pellet...I have three Mrods and their quality is very good and they shoot even better.after hunting with the 25 Mrod I rarely shoot the 22 anymore.all are synthetic stocks.i not saying the gamo urban aint accurate just under powered for my needs...
