FX Wildcat QD Sling Mount using Matt's Mag holder

Not sure about the rest of you but I hate using a regular sling with my Wildcat, so I've been searching for a way to use a single point sling. I finally found a solution and when I looked at mounting it, I realized Matt's mag holders are the perfect companion solution. Of course, you need to use Matt's aluminium version of the mag holder. The Impact Weapons Components QD mount is a very nicely machined piece of aluminum that weights nothing. The bolt Matt provides for the Mag holders is the perfect length with plenty thread bite(5 rotations) for the QD to mount solidly (a bit of Locktite is probably a good idea).

On my gun using the forward most slot on the scope rail, it's perfectly balanced (I have a Sumo mounted). If I mount the QD one slot back it balances with the barrel tipped down slightly. Magpul also makes a QD mount, but doesn't seem as nice. I haven't tried the single point sling in the field yet, but it seems very comfortable and easy to pull the gun up for a shot. Also, it still allows me to have 3 mag holders on the gun.

Went out this weekend and really liked the way the gun hangs. Works great hanging in front or off to your side. Makes long walks very comfortable. Just make sure the QD engages in the mount. Because this is limited rotation, there's not a slot all the way around for the ball bearings to fit in. I accidentally had the gun drop in some tall grass because the balls hadn't seated into the mount slots. I now give the QD a pull just to make sure its seated.

I can now remove my backpack without setting the gun down. This will really be nice when the snow starts piling up.

I made my own sling with parts I had on hand. It's just a QD Sling Swivel, 2 plastic tri-glide slides and some 1.25" webbing. All of this can be found on ebay and amazon. There are some one point slings out there, but I didn't want any metal parts scratching the gun and scope. My setup is silent too.

MartinT: I don't know about other mag holders, I've only used Matt's and I wouldn't use anything other than a metal one for this.

Received the Magpul QD single point sling mount and Matt's Billet Mag Holder today. Found the Wildcat's balance point and used that to mate the two together... an easy and perfect match. The Magpul MS4 Gen2 sling will now work great with this combination. I placed another order to Matt today for an additional mag holder. I’ve since moved the QD to the rear slot so that it carries barrel down.

I have the Wildcat MKIII which has larger magazines that wont fit in the holder. HOWEVER, Using the hardware from the Mag Holder to screw in a QD mount from the other side remains a great idea for a single point mount!

Does anyone make just the part of the magazine hardware to fill the rail side hole with a screw hole to apply counter pressure for the mount? I dont need the full magazine holder as I cant mount additional magazines (and with the large 18 shot mags less useful). I know I can file off the excess parts but looking for a clean look. Thanks
