FX Impact problems

I am still anxiously awaiting my new Impact to arrive. I am not an air gun dealer and I don't care if a competitor appears to be taking advantage of another's product shortcomings here. There is nothing morally or ethically wrong with exposing the shortcomings of a competitors product or encouraging others to do so.. The facts are more important than the posters motives, and there is no point in getting personal with remarks here.
I think people should be forewarned about potential problems when ordering any product, and posting an issue list could be handy. It could also inspire the manufacturer to be more careful with shipping products with defects and/or poor designs and materials. If I had a list of issues, I could use it to inspect my gun when I receive it; maybe nip problems in the bud before damaging components.

Mate, try the search function on this forum and compile your own list from the many posts already written. Or you could PM members and again make your own list. I am sure that both FX and your dealer are well aware of any problems with the Impact (they have already fixed some) and from the posts on this forum it appears that both FX and their dealers have been promptly dealing with any issues. Be positive, I'm sure your Impact will be just fine! If not get it fixed for free or return it. If you are really worried cancel your order and buy a different gun.

The first thing you should do before you buy a gun is read lots of reviews, that's how you hear about faults or weaknesses written by (in most cases) someone who knows what they're saying without being biased or not be motivated to put buyers off. Truth be tolled though every new rifle is going to have fault wether its £100 or £2000 it's luck of the draw no matter what the brand just cross ur fingers

Is there really a problem with FX Impact? That is the question. We keep reading about these so called lists of FX problems. But where are they?

There wouldn't be back-order lists on FX rifles, Impact including if there was a problem list.

There is nothing morally or ethically wrong with exposing the shortcomings of a competitors product or encouraging others to do so.
On some forums exposing shortcomings of their line of guns they are invested in will get you banned and your post deleted faster then you can type the next reply :) But I agree with you it should not be like that. If there is a problem with poor qc and manufacturing we should be able to discuss it. That is why these days airgun disassembly videos or pics are a must see, especially for some newer brands.

With Daystate, Air Arms and FX however you don't have to worry about it, even though it is still nice to look at what they have done. These manufacturers uphold their brand values to the highest standards. Where all other brands get judged in comparison to their QC.

I had a few issues with my Impact the major one being the cocking lever pin broke. I sent mine back to AOA for repair. I know others from the first batch of guns had leaks, from what I understand some of the Orings where miss sized from the factory. AoA said that this has since been corrected and they have the orings to fix the guns that do leak. While my gun was in the shop AoA went ahead and replaced my orings and went through the whole gun. These guys have an awesome service department and Kevin there is always a pleasure to speak with. I'm pretty sure the problems with the first few guns have been addressed and yours should hopefully be trouble free. Good Luck and let us know how your gun does. Regards

Well said Chris and I agree. But I have misgivings about the OP premise when he posits the following:

"...and I don’t care if a competitor appears to be taking advantage of another’s product shortcomings here. There is nothing morally or ethically wrong with exposing the shortcomings of a competitors product or encouraging others to do so. The facts are more important than the posters motives..."

Another gun maker here appears to be doing just that and MORE, given his behavior witnessed on other forums. I'm not at all sure this gun maker is even slightly interested learning how he might make his own offerings better in contrast to FX. Rather, he seems to be agenda driven in his seemingly never ending quest to bash FX at every opportunity and trying to employ others to so. I agree with the original poster if his desire is to try and learn contsructive criticisms of a particular platform. We need that here and elsewhere. I did a search here with my Impact and gave the dealer a list of items to look through and keep it longer to check a few more things out. But for wanting more information on how to more finely tune my Impact, all is well. So far the gun has worked flawlessly.

The Impact probably does have some issues, but they seem to be relatively minor to me. There hasn't been a fatal flaw exposed that I've read about yet. It's mostly been issues with ramping up the manufacturing process that I've read about. You also don't hear people singing the praises of the gun with no issues. Instead, you only hear the cries of frustration from the person with the gun that has a problem. That's selection bias. Unless you have access to data from AoA or FX on return/rework rates there's little that we can go on to make a reasonable statement about quality. I've never used or handled an FX gun, but I suspect it would be a bit like sitting in a Ferrari for me. I don't think I'd want to own one though. Just as I couldn't afford to change the oil in a Ferrari, I couldn't afford the parts and pieces for an FX gun. I'm fine with my Beetle and my Marauder and well aware that I'll never set a record on the Nurburgring and I won't win the Extreme Benchrest competition.

That is all very encouraging information, Thanks.
I thought I would get my gun in January, but doesn't look like it will make it....no phone call yet from AOA. I must assume that the holdup is due to the QC issues, and hoping they are now sending out the guns defect free. I hate paying to return new stuff to the dealer and then waiting for it to come back.
The Impact is the only 30 cal gun that has all the features and performance I want; there is nothing I don't like about it. The Daystate 303 Hi-Lite is close, but is heavier, fewer shots, electronic and more money. So I will wait a bit longer I guess.

Steve,

The roll out of the Impact early last year has been slow and the demand is very high. It only started to become available late this year. The few problematic issues that "some" have had appears to have been addressed as they have presented. I was number 200 in line and by some fluke I don't quite understand, I got mine much earlier in late December than expected. Mine was a .25 and there were no .30 barrels yet available. AOA appears to have some of those separate barrels now but no spare magazines quite yet. Patience is a virtue, but I'm informed FX's machinery is working 24/7 trying to churn out Impacts for those waiting. I had the Daystate .303 Hi-Lite too, and your're right. Loved it dearly, but it was a bit too big and heavy for the field for my purposes.

I am still on the fence and waiting for them to correct the legitimate and systemic issues noted on this forum. Some of these issues were not specific to only that one single gun, such as the quick disconnect access hole, power setting knob wear, magazine cycling issue, etc.

How would one know if they fixed some of these internal discrepancies? Lacking any announcement of the fixes from FX (not expecting one) or one from AOA as they notice that new Impacts come with modifications, one may only know the issues are fixed when people in the field start receiving them. For me personally, if they fixed the charging port issue (where the quick-connect is almost impossible to remove)...that would be the most visible sign for me that they corrected some/all of the legitimate issues noted by users.

It's not easy for a manufacturer to "announce" that there were changes that needed to be done to their latest model that necessitated a new Gen2 designation. Once hundreds of users already received the first guns that are now designated as Gen1, it creates an impression that the Gen2 are superior and instantly creates less demand for Gen1. The dealers get stuck with the Gen1 models that are now have to be heavily discounted. Look at the Mk1 and Mk2 Bobcats.

"Wellgun"If I can help you, Steeve, I just have the information that there is a new lot of Impact that have been produced at the end of January (now... ^^ ) and I should get mine (in France) in March... so the delay might be the same for you :/
My understanding is the end of Jan shipment was delayed as FX are waiting on receiving some parts to complete the current batch.
