FX Impact .25 Chrony Strings Results

I'm still trying to determine the best combination of settings between the main valve adjustment & the power wheel. The main valve controls how far the valve can be opened, and the power wheel controls the spring tension and stroke length of the hammer. For the sake of keeping things simple, I have not adjusted the regulator (which is set at 140 bar). Personally, I would not adjust the regulator unless you only plan on shooting small caliber or light weight pellets.

I chose to shoot the most common caliber .25 caliber 25.4g JSB pellets, at the most common speed 900fps. The pellets were unsorted & unweighed. My goal was to record the chronograph data using different valve & wheel settings.

Here is the Wheel set on 3, the Valve set on 4 (240 bar - 140 bar "on" regulator)
I got 67 shots on the regulator

Here is the Wheel set on 3, the Valve set on 4 (140 bar - 90 bar "off" regulator)
I got an additional 40 shots but they were mostly above the desired fps

Here is the Wheel set on MAX, the Valve set just below 3 (240 bar - 140 bar "on" regulator)
I got 78 shots on the regulator

Here is the Wheel set on MAX, the Valve set just below 3 (140 bar - ? bar "off" regulator)
I gave up after a steady decline of 17 shots

To summarize
Valve all the way open 4, and the Wheel on 3
67 shots on the regulator, Ave = 894, ES = 14.7, SD = 5.4
About 40 shots off the regulator (radical incline), total of 107 shots

Valve open just below 3 (probably about 2.75), and the Wheel on MAX
78 shots on the regulator, Ave = 899, ES = 9.6, SD = 3.1
About 17 shots off the regulator (steady decline), total of 95 shots

According to my results; keeping the Wheel on MAX & adjusting the Valve yielded more consistent results. Now I'm wondering if I should've tried Valve 3.5, and Wheel 4 or 5? With so many options... this airgun just begs to be tweaked and massaged to perfection. I love the flexibility of this platform. Yay Impact!

*Keep in mind that the wheel does a fine job of delivering "off the shelf results". So if you don't have a chronograph or aren't into fine tuning, then the wheel will satisfy most of your needs.* Here is a baseline for all the "non-tuners" to follow (I will add the .22 results once they are available)

Ronin001I dont recall from your videos but can you adjust the power wheel settings? Im not talking about just rotating the wheel from Max to Min but actually increasing or decreasing each individual setting of the wheel?

Yes, there is a small allen screw behind the wheel. Which can be used for fine adjustments as well. But it acts on the entire power wheel not individual settings.

Michael,
Many thanks for the information. That is a fabulous shot string.
With the same pellet my Airwolf delivers 60 shots at 865 fps with a 10 fps ES before slowly dropping in velocity. In contrast, my Cricket which is regulated delivers 60 shots at 965 fps from a 230 BAR fill before dropping off the regulator. I only experienced the erratic rise in velocity with my Steyr LG.-110 when I attempted to reduce the velocity. In all other cases I see the nice quick drop off from the regulator.
Given the data you have shared the Impact will be my next purchase.

Hey Michael i don't understand something: You have one graph set to Wheel at Max and Valve at 3 and you where shooting an average of 901 FPS JSB 25.4 Chart 3) but then for us non-tuner types you said the wheel should do us fine and, on that chart it says at wheel at Max and Valve at 3 shooting .25 JSB 25.4 we shoot be shooting an average of 960 FPS. Thats a big difference isn't it?

I see your point (regarding the 5th chart). Let me clarify this: the main valve adjuster does not have fixed "click" positions. When I made that chart I adjusted the main valve so that I could visually see the entire line markers of the valve (which was probably about .25 over each marker). When I adjusted the main valve for chart 3, I actually adjusted it a bit under the 3rd marker, so it was probably at about 2.75.

Looking back upon my 5th chart, it appears that maybe I did not adjust the valve settings equally, because with the valve set at 3 one would assume that the velocity would be about 20-30 fps less for each wheel setting.

For all the non-tuners I can only assume that your rifle will be shipped with the valve set at 4. So, if you want to get about 900 fps with the .25 cal, 25g pellets then you will likely have to set your wheel at 3. Again these are just my results. The Impacts have not flooded the market yet so there is very little data available.

Michael thanks for taking the time to put out your test results. I will be hoping to see your results when you get the time to test the Impact in .22 caliber. The Impact looks like it could take care of most my hunting and pest control needs with the ability to easily change barrels, calibers and power settings. My initial purchase would be in .22 cal. for ratting. I would be looking to get the most shots out of a fill and at a lower power setting. The rifles short length and relatively lighter weight is a big plus. Thanks Bill

Mike: Thanks for clarifying the wheel and valve settings, also thanks for the picture I didn't know what the main valve adjuster looked like. Learned something new today LOL. Really do appreciate all the work you guys put in testing and getting info out to us. Hey "TED" it's your turn bro. Feed the fire, and let us know what you've been up too. Also I guess when the Impacts actually start to ship FX will update there home page and actually have the Impact listed and the specs.

You're welcome. I'm guessing that you'll be able to get even more shots out of the 18g .22 caliber pellets.

coonslayerall this info kinda has me thinking maybe i should not have gotten the impact as my first PCP, so many adjustments sounds kinda confusing

Awwww, Don't let all of these results scare you. As I've said before, if you do not want to get into fine tuning all you have to do is adjust the power wheel, which should suffice for any caliber at any given speed you desire.
