Fx Crown modified regulator

Hi,

Don't know about any reg. changes for the Crown, but I changed the belleville stack myself because I found the reg. to act very slow in stock form. (I have the latest model, delivered end of januari)
I double stacked the belleville washers, and made a exactly fitting washer to prevent the belleville washers from digging into the soft Delrin regulator piston.
It is way more responsive and consistent now, and the reg. does not creep anymore, not even after a longer period of time.
I can also go to 180 bar easily now, (pretty pointless, I know) without any issues at all.

"wolfie"Hi Weatherby
Ta for reply.
In my ignorance what are Belleville washers? What extra do they bring to the party?
Do you think these " Disc springs" being spoken of will make any difference in the performance?
Finally another question- What are FX trying to achieve here?
safe shooting
I can't really say. However, I can say I'm stubborn enough to think a lot of factory stuff has got room for improvement.
Some manufaturers (I will not call names) apparently don't know how these belleville washers work. They preferably have to be stacked in even proportions, unless you want to create a progressive spring stack.
Sometimes you see them stacked like: (())(())(())( The single washer at the end is going to be flattened immediately, because the rest of the stack is way stiffer (double stacked) so it will more or less act like a regular washer.

Good configurations are:
()()()()()
(())(())(())(())
((()))((()))((()))((()))((()))
The spring travel is the same for all of the 3 stacks above, except the top one is the easiest to compress, while the bottom one is the hardest to compress.

In case of the Crown and Impact, I have a strong feeling that the belleville washers are too soft to handle pressures higher than 150 bar, with other words, the washers are almost flattened at that pressure, and are starting to act unpredictable. (result: regulator creep and slow response time to reach the final reg. pressure.)
I stacked my washers in a different configuration to make them stiffer, with less travel. And it works a charm. No more regulator creep, and I can go beyond 150 bar easily.

"bzizzi373"Please go into detail How you did regulator mod.
Wish I could, but I forgot to take pictures. I always get carried away when tweaking stuff, and find out I forget to take pictures when I have already finished up LOL.
To tear it apart again just to take pictures is not a good idea either, because the regulator parts are very small and fragile thus easy to damage.
When you mess up a part, you're done. Not easy to get a replacement part for the newest guns unfortunately.
Just checked my reg. gauge today, still at 150 bar after a week. Absolutely no creep anymore.
When I have it apart again, I will make photo's and post them here.

Does anyone know if the new Synthetic Crowns have 8mm or 10mm washers?

It's better to ask that question to FX (USA), it is possible that they swapped stocks with an older model or something before shipping (by no means I am sure of this, just a suggestion of what might be possible). Just send them the serial number and they can tell you if it has the new regulator.

Hi ,Wetherby any chance you could

Hi Wetherby , could you please post a diagram of your stack , I have the 10mm Belville washers in mine and it's very inconsistent at low reg pressures , I'm am persueing less air consumption on my sub12lbft FX Crown .22 , I have fitted a borrowed longer barrel as in 600mm to see if it would benefit my cause , the reg is set at 35 bars but the shot spread in lbft produced is very inconsistent , I hope you can understand what I am trying to achieve I don't want to break the law just save my pocket from having to pay for refills of my divers bottle . I'm using 15.9 grain JSB or Daystate sovereign . Thanks in advance
