Fix my Gauge

I need a little input from people that have had this problem.

I have a gauge in the side of my Wildcat that reads the reg pressure. But, The problem is that it doesn't get tight where I want it to so it can be right-side up. I tried a small o-ring at the bottom of the hole and teflon tape. It leaked. I tried putting the o-ring on bottom and that little plastic disk on top of that, and then the o-ring. Still no joy. The only other thing I can think of might be dope on the threads.

Anyone else have a way to get the gauge to face the way you want it and still not leak?

Thanks for the help

Have you tried a Dowty seal (bonded oring)? Might work if surface under gage is flat. Your gage may sit up a little higher. BSPP threads aren’t intended to seal like npt threads.

Yeah, this is a HUMA gauge. It is flat on the bottom. And the derlin disk is flat too. I tried putting an o-ring under the disk. Still leaked. I also used 3 wraps of tape. I'll give more tape a try. It sounded like that was going to work on the first try. It is possible I put the tape on in the wrong direction or something. I know it goes on so that as you tighten the threads in, it keeps the tape on.
I'll keep experimenting and figure something out. Maybe some plumber's pipe dope ??? LOL

Thanks for the help guys.

Crusher, when I first finished adding the second gauge to my Royale I made a Delrin bushing/spacer to take up some of the depth of the hole. I was hoping the gauge would seal just snugged up to Delrin bushing but it didn't. Next I added a couple of wraps of Teflon tape and it still leaked a little so then I tried a O-ring that was small enough that it didn't come close the threads and stayed directly under the gauge, well it still leaked, added Teflon again, still leaked. I pulled the gauge back off, removed the O-ring and replaced it with a larger OD O-ring that fit against the threads tight enough I had to use a screw driver to work it to the bottom. Wahlah! great seal now. I'm waiting on a better gauge to replace this one with so I may have to experiment again if it doesn't line up like I want it to. I'm sure there is some high pressure thread sealant or loctite on the market that would work. It might take some setting up time though.

careful with the recta seal #5 especially with the original yellow and the new grey they look dry but in the heat can turn soupy ,possibly voiding warranty,,if still active, if your going to buy some new pipe dope go with true blue ,dries and hardens quicker than the others,, when you put the tape on the guage roll it on clock wise ,,that way when u put it to the bull pup it wont bunch up ,,teflon tape also comes in different thickness ,,being BLUE MONSTER,is thickest strongest and best,,petroleum products break teflon down quickly causing seperation and tape breakdown voiding loads of warranties PAT

Good to hear crusher. I was wondering if I was just lucky with the Teflon tape. I did try a "o" ring without success and considered some other options as stated by the other members but the tape worked well without a problem. I am very happy with my huma gauge install and the Huma reg is also proving to be a better product than the OEM I replaced. We are also testing a Huma reg in a kalibrgun carbine presently that is also outperforming the original equipment. It is starling season here in NC so I am having a wonderful time removing starlings from my Martin colonies with the help of PCP air rifles! Hope all goes well for you crusher.
