First try at recording scope video

Nice first video Blackdiesel. The challenge of recording one's shots through a scope-cam is not easy.and is equal parts luck, art, and science. You have inspired me to draft the following...

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN TRYING TO CAPTURE THAT PERFECT SCOPE CAM SHOT:
  • The height of the scope in relation to the bore will dramatically impact how the camera captures the flight of the pellet. The same applies for scopes that aren't 100% parallel to the rifle bore. The scope cam is extremely sensitive to these subtle changes.
  • The interplay between the scope, camera, and mount is infinite. Any time you mount a camera to the scope the distance and offset between the camera lens and the ocular lens is going to be different from your last shoot. By the time you have made all the necessary adjustments to the scope and camera to get ready to start recording, the angle of the sun has changed and the scope and camera inevitably have heated up so halt catch fire.
  • That said, any changes to target distance will require you to adjust the scope parallax which has a trickle down effect on camera settings.
  • The camera is dynamically adjusting the aperture, lens speed, and light settings- right up to the point one hits the record button: This can and will impact the quality of any successive recordings made during your shoot. One can mitigate this by shooting in manual mode but is extremely difficult to do in practice considering your are shooting a rifle not a child playing soccer. A human can only multitask so much.
Essentially, for every one recording you make where the target, pellet, reticle, focus and lighting are in perfect harmony, there will be 50 that you will end up tossing. You'll see.

Have fun!!!
