Exploding expanding JSB pellets for hunting is easy to make!

Some people ask – What pellets are best for hunting? And there is no one answer to it. In my opinion there are many pellets that could be used for hunting but there is another problem. For what kind of goals do we need a particular pellet. JSB are good for precision and penetration but they do not have expansion effect at all. They just pass through target and leaves nice and thin entrance and exit. It is not new for many people here but I want to talk about it. I decided to make expanding pellets for hunting from regular .22 JSB 1.03 grams’ pellets. And here are some pictures and also watch my video of testing them on crows. I hope you’ll like it and enjoy!

PS: Anyone doing the same with pellets? What are the impacts? Which pellets do you choose?

i don't think the cuts he makes are deep enough to really expand like a true hallow point or a poly mag with ought seeing the pellet after the shoot threw you cant really tell if anything I would think they toppled in he bird as it exited which you could imagine almost any pellet could do that at a distance after hitting bone or an uneven surface
plus when applying pressure to cu the pellet your more likely to misform the head or the skirt and that's when accuracy becomes a main issue

No, I shot many crows with standart domes JSB without cuts. And the entrence of pellet and exit were the same all the time. No big wonds and damage. For sure pellet expanded twice its diameter. If some one doesn't belive in it I'll make it hit some ballistic soap (gel) and I'll show pellet after hit. Just wait few days until I get some free time for it. Also accuracy is not bad until 50 m it is precise. "plus when applying pressure to cu the pellet your more likely to misform " - Good point but, I knew it because I deformed few pellets. I figured out that pressure is not needed while doing it. Just put sharp knife and move it side ways left and right applying a little pressure. Nothing happens to shape.

Why don't you just buy H&N Hunter Extremes which already have the cuts, the cuts are better than your DIY job and H&N pellets are 1/2 the price of JSBs to start with. Then you could end this madness.

Sitting there cutting up pellets by hand is not a good solution. It's like cutting a chicken into the shape of a hammer to knock in some nails instead of buying an actual hammer. You have to think about how it looks to others....

I tried them, but what if I like JSB more? Also H&N has a different type of lead. What if some people couldn't find H&N pellets for instance. You said that H&N are cheeper but it is not true. In the same price I buy 500 pellets of JSB, or 200 pellets of H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme. "Then you could end this madness" - experimenting is not madness, there are many ways to do with pellets. It is also possible to glu two pellets one on top another and knock down effect would be much better.

"Sheharyar"Though they are available at shops with different brand labels on em but this is a good approach.

This may affect accuracy too as the cuts won't be as even as made by a machine.

Ok, it is true. But there is one point. Is - How you make cuts. If you manage to make cuts well, accuracy will be affected but not crutial for hunting purposes.
Also it will be fair enough to just damn test them on ballistic expansion and precision. I will make report as soon as I get some free time to document my results to the video and documental report with pictures. And the topic will be clear with no doubts about it concerning it works or not.

Guys, no need to jump on him. He has JSB pellets and has found through experience that they work well when cut like that. He even posted a video to support it!

Factory hollow point pellets may work better, or they may not! I'd be interested to see an accuracy test at 50 yards or 50m of the cut JSB vs. Something like a H&N Baracuda Hunter. Does the uniformity of the factory pellet translate into better accuracy? If so, at what distance? If it only matters at > 50m, and he's usually shooting crows at < 40m, it doesn't matter, and then we'd have the advantage of not having to stock more different kinds of pellets.

Or, what if his gun shoots JSBs better? Maybe they will be even, in terms of accuracy, after he cuts them, compared to the H&N?

It is considered sloppy these days, to make one's own hollow points. However, we have to give credit to open-minded folks who don't discount ideas just because "it's just not done."

In America, folks were making their own hollow point ammo before it was made commercially, maybe 50+ years ago. The effectiveness is the REASON we now have commercial hollow point ammo.

I just got around to watching that. His modified pellet hit right to the point of aim at 40m.The key is not to deform the pellet by pressing too hard with the knife.

I think I would prefer factory-made pellets, just for uniformity, but when I'm "out of stock" on those and just need a few, I'll keep this trick in mind.

By the way, I prefer your spoken voice (even with the accent) to the synthesized voice, even with the accent. It gives the videos some character.

Only criticism: watch your shots' backstops. You shot at an upward angle in an area that appeared urban. You wouldn't want to kill some kid a couple blocks away in case of a miss.

Thanks for the video. It takes lots of time to put them together.

Thanks for support and understanding. criticism- is right, I accept it.
