Driving range groundhog pesting.

It's been awhile since I have been on here, mainly do to activity with pistol shooting as well as my SigTalk forum activity. I thought it was time to drop by and share a quick story.

I took off work early today and went to the driving range to practice before a golf tournament my church is doing tomorrow. I also wanted to try a new club I picked for my birthday which is today. To my suprise when I got to the range there were 10 groundhogs out on the range. After talking to the owner he told me 2 of them needed taken care of because of being destructive to his sheds.
I told him I could come back in the evening and take care of them if he wanted, which he gladly accepted the offer.

I just recently got the .22 marauder out and checked for zero, so she was ready to put in some work.

The groundhogs here are used to golfers pulling in and moving around the parking lot so I was able to get within 15 yards of the first one without drawing his attention to much. I was able to use the post lining the parking lot as a shooting rest and a quick whistle got him to lift his head and immediately it dropped as the pellet smacked him directly below the ear.
The second was a little more skittish and I got to about 30 yards and he ran under a bush nearby. I knew where he was headed so I laid down prone and got set for a quick shot, setting the side focus and bipod. He tried to head for the next tree line where his hole was, but stopped to look when I made a squeak sound. It definitely was his mistake as a pellet caught him directly between the eye and ear

The owner was impressed with the accuracy and power of the pcp air rifle, as well as how quiet it was. The first was the 15 yard shot and the second was the 30 yard, and both expired immediately with a 18.13gr JSB to the head.

These will not go to waste, as he has a flock of vultures that roost in the tree line at the far end of the range.

I would have to say it was a pretty good birthday.

Nice shots! That is an excellent rifle…the more I read and hear about it, the more convinced I am, that a Marauder might need to be my first PCP by this fall? 😍

The marauder is not a bad first pcp, but I know they can be very fussy and need tunning, especially the .22cal. Some had barrel and accuracy issues back when I got mine, but I hope they are all straightened out by manufacturer now. I think if I would have done it again, I would have made a different choice in .22/ but the .25 marauder I had was so much more accurate out of the box.

I am currently debating my next pcp, which will be in .22cal. I have narrowed it down to Daystate Huntsman regal xl, Fx streamline, or Fx wildcat. If you can hold off to purchase one of these, I am sure you will get hooked on PCP. All are cabable of being filled with pump, so no huge first investment on compressor and bottles.
