I am waiting on a housing from China (the $70 one) to see if it is as I suspect identical in internal measurements in which case we will then have a low cost alternative to the commercial offering occupying the top of the Greek alphabet.

Very cool, good find Thurmond! I have the gold filter from eBay, and can take any measurements that you'd like to know. Mine is the one with the through holes on the end caps to make it easier to unscrew the caps. Do you anticipate the use of an o-ring or delrin washer of some sort on each end to seal the air flow through the filter? I'm 99% sure the Diablo is the same dimensions as the eBay one...

Hi Mike it comes with a very fine O-ring and rubber boot seal already attached thus my designation of "drop in" replacement. I did have to put a tiny amount of silicon grease on the o-ring. It will fit an ID of 1.2" and is 8.75" long which left exactly the amount of room at the bottom of the Diablo housing for the original felt pads , spring and washers.
The Diablo housing outer dimensions are approximately 2" diameter by 12 7/8" tall inclusive of the end caps.

The inner dimensions of the $70 Xin Yong Shi gold filter is 10" length and 1.375" inside diameter. Guys were using 1" PVC pipe as an inner liner which had an outer diameter of 1.25" and it still leaves a gap. A 1.16" OD cartridge would fit the length with a spring for compression but will not seal in a gold filter. I checked every size filter sold by Filtertech hoping there is a drop in that fit. Let us know what you find out when you get the filter..

Here is the one I just bought for my Coltri compressor it uses the same cartridge you are showing. The cartridge does not fit tight it just drops in. I don't have a measurement but I would say there is an 1/8 jn gap between it and the sides

Tester with the new filter today. ALL oil / lubricant smell is gone from the final product. This is with a pure 13X Zeolite filter and NO activated carbon. I am well pleased at this point.
Additionally I spent $20 on some hose, nipple and made a remoted input moisture removal filter with loose 3A zeolite (that which came in the Diablo) and color change desiccant (like AV is selling but BIGGER).

Note: Concerning a tight fit at the walls of the filter housing.....it is not required since the filter seals at the top of the housing and the filter output. All input air even though outside the filter between the housing and filter element is forced through the filter as long as the upper seal is working......in this case the pressure before the filter is helping "push" the filter element top seal into tight contact with the top of the housing / output. Easier to picture than to describe for sure.
