Cutting the Cards

My 16 year old son and I hadn't been out shooting for a while, so Saturday morning we got out to the range early and grabbed a couple of the 50 yard benches.

We decided to have a go at some fun targets, a bell, a quad, a couple of spinners, but the real challenge of the day was going to be cutting cards. We set up a stand with 5 playing cards edge on and took along the camera to capture what we hoped would some successful shots.

My son was shooting a Discovery in .177 and right away, he started knicking cards, but just couldn't get that clean cut, until....

Perfect cut.

We both managed a couple more each before we tried our hand at lighting matches, despite hits that took the igniter portion of the match, we just couldn't get one to fire, but we had a great time trying.

Lots of fun and even better that we had the time together.

Thanks AJ.

We have had great luck with the Crosman Premier Hollow Points 7.9 grains. Really handy to be able run to Walmart and get a tin anytime.

It has been so long since I chronied them, I don't precisely remember, but I believe it was about 920 or so. The gun is so steady and reliable, that I just have not had to fuss with it much. Definitely a performer and a great value.

Thanks

Rod

Now that is even better news, remarkable precision with an affordable and readily accessible diet.
I think they are excellent guns with very good consistency primarily due to the lower 2000psi fill pressure and proper engineering and most importantly, the highly disciplined and very talented shooter!
Sure looks like you have a real winner there!
Have fun!
AJ

PS may I borrow this thread to use as an example for someone possibly looking to get into PCPs?

Great shooting but even more impressive is the time you spent with your son bonding. Your a lucky man/dad. When I was a kid I begged for a sheridan blue streak in .20 cal and after a long time my parents got me one to shut me up. They don't like guns. Now Im still shooting and even bought a piece of property upstate and can't get my son interested at all. Drives me crazy. We bond through baseball but wish it was with shooting.

Thanks crittahitta.

You never know with kids.

I bought him a Crosman 760 when he was 7, and spent a year or so shooting animal crackers at 10 yards. From there we moved up in guns and back from the targets.

We had a lot of fun minisniping at 30 yards, some epic battles. Built some windflags and learned together to read and hold for wind.

Now we spend most of our time at 50 yards. A bell target with a 3/4" kill zone, a quad with a 1", and whatever other challenging targets we can come up with.

With kids, I think it is important to make the targets varied and reactive. They don't get any joy from measuring CTC group sizes, but ringing a bell that the whole world can hear, always brings a smile.

He made me laugh the other day when he said after missing three shots in a row at a match head, "I guess I need to remember not to get so frustrated when I miss the head of a match at 50 yards..."
