Custom AZ & Eric Sanders Elevation Turrets...

Not sure if any1 has discussed this but if you have a very reliable tracking scope & a very reliable consistent shooting rifle, I would recommend shooters to add this option to their scope/rifle packages. I'd like to say I shoot both rifles mentioned below almost everyday so they have been seasoned or put through their paces & I have no affiliation to AZ or to Eric Sanders other than purchasing their products or services.

My truck rifle & my go to rifle is the AZ Rapid MK2 .177, .20, .22 (yes, I have all 3 very accurate barrels from AZ). I bought this rifle used just last year (original 46" oal) & now @ 38" OAL (14" barrels) she's been fully tuned by AZ. Being very reliable, very accurate, & very quiet in all 3 calibers are my main reasons she's still a keeper. She's shooting jsb 10g pellets @ 905 fps @ 18 fpe in current standing. The scope is a SWFA fixed 16X scope. Tracking is superb on this scope & clarity is the same. I requested AZ to machine (3 seperate) "dial of death" elevation turrets (for all 3 barrels & pellets) which he completes his ballistics testing on a specific pellet @ the best speed for best accuracy. AZ completed his work by hand writing his elevation turret tape. I'm very satisfied so far w/ the overall looks, ease of installation, ease of use, ease of adjustment of the elevation tape, superb accuracy, & repeatability of AZ's new turret. "Dialing in or turning your elevation knob" to shoot at targets/victims has become so much easier & fun when it comes down to shooting @ longer distances. Shooting this Rapid is incredibly fun when single loading & knowing where your pellet will exactly hit makes her mind boggling. Just dope for wind, pull the 4 oz trigger and things around you will start dropping like flies.

Next up. My truck bullpup & my go to bullpup, the .22 Mutant Shorty. I bought her brand new 2 1/2 years ago & @ 22" OAL she's never been fully tuned by anyone. Being very reliable, quiet, & accurate is my main reasons she's still a keeper. She's shooting jsb 13g, 14g, 16g (815 fps @ 23.6 fpe) pellets & H&N SS 18g very accurate. The scope is a SWFA 3-15x42 FFP scope. Tracking is superb on this scope & clarity is the same. I acquired the oversized elevation turret from Eric Sanders of Scope-werks & I also purchased his scopeknob software to easily print out the elevation turret tape. Reading & completing Eric's instructions/tips on this website/software made it much more easier to create your own custom elevation tape. It took me about 4 or 5 trial & error elevation tapes to finally get the exact ballistics yardage tape to be accurate. I'm very satisfied so far w/ the overall looks, ease of installation, ease of use, ease of adjustment of the elevation tape, accuracy, & repeatability of this new turret.

My past process of acquiring/shooting a target:

I would locate my target in yards/meters w/ my Nikon Aculon 6x20 laser rangefinder. Punch in the correct yardage/meters in Strelok Pro on my cell phone. Strelok Pro would show me exactly where to holdover/under to precisely bring down my target. I've been using Strelok Pro for about 2 years now w/ great accuracy until recently I started dialing my elevation turret.

My present process of acquiring/shooting a target:

Again, I would locate my target in yards/meters w/ my Nikon Aculon 6x20 laser rangefinder. Once the correct yardage has been found, I would just dial my elevation turret to the correct yards/meters, aim using only the crosshairs, dope for wind & pull the trigger. After the shot, I would just dial my elevation turret back to my original "zero". Again, quick, easy, simple, fun & very accurate.

Conclusion:

If you have time to tinker, I would recommend learning/testing this process if you decide to go w/ Eric & his scopeworks turret & software. On the other hand, AZ, "the master of disaster" can complete this process for you w/ a repeatable, consistent nice scope & a very accurate rifle/ pellet combo for a nominal fee he charges. Either way, you can enjoy this very neat feature while enjoying your favorite past time, "shooting your favorite air rifle."

I'm setting up my Eric Sanders elevation & yardage turrets for my RAW .25 HM1000X rifle.

Hope all is well for you guys...

We are ALL truely blessed to have an air rifle...

Killer write up Buddy !!!!!! Guys I can 100% vouch for Nhats success rate using these setups. He is the reason there are so few small vermin left in NE Texas !!!
PS his guns look WAY better in person .
Too many guys boast about their shooting ability , He never ever boasts like that ...He simply head shoots squirrel and such at distances that make me wanna buy his jersey !!

David,

Thanks, I try to help whenever possible. If your looking for a range wheel, (yards/meters turret) I would 1st see if your rifle will allow you to fit one on your yardage turret & @ the same time allow you to use your magazines. I'm not sure if your a magazines load from the left or right side of your rifle or do you hand feed/single load your pellets. If your magazines are loaded from the left side then the oversized yardage wheel may not allow you to install your left side magazines into your rifle (due to the yardage wheel being too oversized). Maybe you can ask Eric Sanders to custom make you a "comma wheel" for your SWFA scope to fix this issue, like the one below. (I borrowed this pic from Eric's Scope-werks website)

If your magazines are right feed into your rifle, then there should be no problem w/ installing an oversized yardage wheel, (since the oversized yardage wheel & the right hand side magazine will have proper clearance to be used). I ordered right hand side magazines for my RAW .25 HM1000X rifle for my oversized Scope-werks yardage turret to work properly.

If single feeding pellets is possble on you rifle, then again the oversized yardage wheel will have proper fit/function. I single feed pellets into my AZ Rapid due to the magazine spring (similar to marauder style magazines) having too much torque causing smaller pellets (.177, .20, .22 cal) to have slight/minor deformations when each pellet is loaded into the action causing accuracy issues. The .22 Shorty magazines (similar to cricket/wildcat style magazines) don't have this issue, so accuracy is pretty much spot on.

I would contact Eric Sanders @ Scope-werks (link above in my first post) to answer your question(s). Eric is always very helpful & it seems like he can almost machine you anything you can ask for. He did for me.

Hope this helps...

You guys have a safe/fun weekend...

John,

Thanks for clarifying. Haha...yes you are correct on both topics. AZ does charge you a handful of gold for his very detailed quality of work. If you have time/land to setup your own yardage marking tape for your oversized yardage wheel or your oversized elevation turret, then please complete it. It was very self-satisfying to finally complete my elevation turret tape for my .22 Shorty.

Regards...

Though I didn't do it here, I believe in Getting your hold overs/clicks as close to the day of shooting, or in similar conditions to the next time you will be out. I'm not sure about you but most shooters I see who get their numbers from an app go out and test them anyways. It seems like an extra step to me if you're going to go out and shoot to confirm those clicks or hold over points.
Anyways that is one sweet setup and AZ's work is always top notch. I even have a compufoil wheel and AZ elevation cap with stop for a now broken nikko sterling diamond. They will likely be for sale soon sans broken scope.

Your right John. I double check my elevation/windage clicks before every hunt/target practice. It takes less than a minute to double check & recalibrate both elevation/windage turrets (if they are off) to get accuracy back spot on. Very simple process w/ the oversized elevation turrets...

Yes, Allen's work is very nice. He has my new RAW HM1000X .25 right now to perform a lot of work. Hope to get her back soon...

What happen to your Nikko scope?...
