Crown Magazine Issues Fixed

I've been having problems with the Crown magazine. At $95 for a new one, I figured I should try to fix this one first.

The issues are: 1. Some of the pellets exit the mag with a mark on the side. 2. When loading pellets, several of the holes don't allow the skirt to pass and I have to use a small probe to push the pellet down so I can rotate to the next pellet. If I don't push them down far enough, the top plastic lid dings the skirt.

I had a problem similar to this on my old Marauder mag and tried several ways to fix it. Once I found THIS way, it worked perfectly. I just took it apart and used a dremel tool to smooth certain areas up and now the pellets fall into place. And when I load the mag and push them out with a probe, there are no marks on the skirt. Sweet.

Anyone else having this problem? maybe I should make a video?

And that is kind of what I'm saying. It is a pain to load that way. Now that I fixed this mag, I can just drop the pellet right in and rotate to the next one. I don't have to touch them at all. Polishing up the internals of the mag made a huge difference.
It was really annoying that I push the pellets in and then when I try to rotate the top to the next hole, it crimps the skirt of the previous pellet. Now I gotta take that one out too. ugh.. so now, I just drop them in and they seat all the way down. Perfect. And, it only took maybe 15-20 minutes to fix. I'm happy :)

So if you are mechanical at all and can take one of these apart and get it back together, the work part is easy.. I used several different things previously on my other mags that helped minimally. The tool the worked the very best is my dremel on low speed with a small wire wheel. Go slow because you don't want to get the plastic hot and deform it. When you take it slow and easy you will see that the plastic actually starts to shine. Polishing that curved slot as smooth as possible works. I also found that the top edge of that curve needs to be touched up at the end. So I polished the U shape slots, and then at the end polish all the top edges of the U's all the way around. Now, it is slick as can be and works perfectly.

That is exactly what I'm talking about. Now when I just drop the pellet at the hole, it falls right in place. I'm a happy camper. 

So since the picture is there (thank you sir) Each of those u shaped slots get polished top to bottom as I mentioned above. And then that top edge, where you see the top of your pellet hanging? Polish all those last on about a 45 degree angle. Keep in mind you are not trying to remove material. Only polish and smooth things out. Like I said, took maybe 15 minutes. Slow and easy.

Here is the wheel I use. I have tried several different things and even screwed up a couple of mags. This is what works for me.

As far as I know, they don't. The only contact of surfaces in my mag are at the spindle where the screw is. And I didn't crank down on that. I left it just barely snug. Seems to work fine now and allows the pellets to just drop into place. I shot about 4 mags yesterday and every one loaded just by dropping the pellet in.

Hi guys

My new Crown .25 doing the same thing. Speaking to dealer who is also the importer tomorrow . I couldn't find in my case ,when it arrived. the Dremel and instruction kit??
Such a shame this issue not fixed , FX are a quality manufacturer. 
As a final comment that magazine system was designed by Ben Taylor of Theoben fame, you guys know it as RAW in USA. Was on my Rapid 7 back in 1997. FX have a much newer and better system why isn't their Top Gun? fitted with that? Clearly FX know this is out of date which is why they designed a better one. Other makers offer anti double load as well. Some years ago I spoke to Tony Belas of Daystate and whilst saying I liked my Airwolf MTC asked him why no anti double load magazine. Well the F words flew at a rate with the suggestion that one was a complete idiot to double load. About a year later Daystate appeared with a anti double load mag and Tony Belas left the company.
