Crow hunting tips needed

These days, true crows (genus corvus, of which there are about 30 members) are Federally protected, and unless they're predicating, you cannot legally shoot them. Some species of raven (lessor corvus species) are also protected, and those that aren't still require a federal bird stamp to hunt, because they're migratory. 

Simple...crow food as in corn and or road kill and a crow call. You must stay hidden in a blind of some sort, the farther from your bait station the better. Be set up just before daybreak, Crows are very smart they send in a scout before sending in the troops. If you're made then game over you've wasted a morning.

There are several crow call apps for your phone . I use an external Bluetooth speaker .
They work really well but as stated before stay hid if your spotted your done. I like to use a single decoy over a patch of fur, they'll think they are missing a meal. Lot of fun. 

i used a youtube link that shows a guy bending a wire coat hanger in the shape of a crow and wrapping a black plastic trash bag over it 


and it worked! i was able to draw them in with the help of a crow call. It took some practice with the call to get it "real" 

Or you could spend some extra cash and buy the pre made decoys and an electronic call.

From the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations title 50 Wildlife and Fisheries, part 20 Migratory Bird Hunting:

§20.133 Hunting regulations for crows.
(a) Crows may be taken, possessed, transported, exported, or imported, only in accordance with such laws or regulations as may be prescribed by a State pursuant to this section.
(b) Except in the State of Hawaii, where no crows shall be taken, States may by statute or regulation prescribe a hunting season for crows. Such State statutes or regulations may set forth the method of taking, the bag and possession limits, the dates and duration of the hunting season, and such other regulations as may be deemed appropriate, subject to the following limitations for each State
(1) Crows shall not be hunted from aircraft
(2) The hunting season or seasons on crows shall not exceed a total of 124 days during a calendar year
(3) Hunting shall not be permitted during the peak crow nesting period within a State; and
(4) Crows may only be taken by firearms, bow and arrow, and falconry.

Here in Maryland we have a regular season for them August 15 through March 15 Wednesday through Saturday only. They are considered small game here and may be taken with air guns. A bird stamp is not required.

Another tip: Cover your face as crows remember and Teach the face of an antagonist to their young.

Put a hawk decoy and a couple crow decoys up in a dead tree, keep hid, wear full camo and have your rifle ready. Any movement and your busted. I use 2 different crow calls for different pitches. Get aggressive with your calling. After you shoot, keep calling. You probably won't get a second shot at the same crows, but Other crows will come in. 

I have Pecan Trees so Crows are legal without a license as they will consume an entire crop in a very short time.

Crows also go absolute crazy over an owl nearby. Just a few days ago I chased off 6 who were harassing our wild (pet) Great Horned Owl.

My fox pro has a dying crow call that brings them in by the dozens, problem for me is that they dont want to land. A great decoy in crowded so cal is a mcdonalds bag weighted with a rock and a few fries right next to it. You need a little patience but they cant resist.

Cheap can dog food works great.put it in a plastic container with a top so it can be used over and over.diffinitly you need to stay hidden Good Luck

Now that is funny right there but it will work in places other than so cal too!
