BEWARE JSB .25 pellets! There's yet ANOTHER variation to the 25.4's!!!!

AoA sells tins with a little price tag sized sticker on the back. Supposedly these are pre sorted by head size. They're also labeled for lot and date.
Everywhere else I've ordered from sells them with a standard large white decal on the bottom.
Perhaps someone can inform all of us if any other retailer sells them with lot stickers.

I won't be doing any comparison testing on those deep well ones I just found. I got an offer on them and they're sold off. I'm happy to remove one variation from my stockpile and help out a fellow air gunner that was running low on ammo.

I have three theories and I know two are correct. The third is the wildcard!

1. FX has a inside deal with JSB. The new Crown has interchangeable X barrel system right? Of course X is the secret pellet that goes with the secret barrel. So you need four barrels to shoot all four JSB variations of the 25.39.

2. Obviously North Korea is doing an inside job on pellet tin packaging, and trying to make America and their allies think that they are going crazy. Sure can't beat us with our military arsenal, but when you are getting that flyer every ten shots..... They may have already won without firing a shot. Ya Ted...... I know the secret as well. Just block it out of your head and focus.

3. All information was put out by CNN. Ya Tom........ I always wondered what you did for a living. Apparently you are a undercover operative/reporter.
Like I said the third is the wildcard. Tom either you are a hero exposing the North Korean's plot or you're fake news. Ya I said it! Moderators be easy on me, this has to be exposed.

If any of you are interested in a possible fourth theory, you can listen into the radio tonight and tune into Coast to Coast with Art Bell. I will be making a call about my airgun being possessed by the ghost of Sasquatch. I will also mention the JSB thing!

sounds like your suppliers/distributors are messing with you guys.

if you receive tins without the little label
year, die, batch, size etc info i would advice to return all that to your supplier you brought it from
https://airgunaccuracy.wordpress.com/jsb-labelling-numbers-explained/

i would not be buying a pig in a poke for sure! You have to push on the supplier to clearly identify a pellet.
Definitely for smaller calibers over in Europe, usually there is a choice of few different batches when you order from reputable sources

Hey guys after reading this I went and checked my 3 tins of jsb .25 25.39grn pellets all bought from PA within the last year at different times....I date my tins upon arrival also with where I bought them...I to compared tins from late last year to summer this year all from PA

Having the exact same 3 pellet variations I decided to test the accuracy and poi of them in my .25 cricket...starting with the ones it was sighted for ( early year batch)

I will try to post photos later of everything but this is a quick post on my findings directly related to my gun

This was done in a vise to eliminate myself from the equation and no changes to the scope from each type... Each pellet was shot in groups of ten and rifle refilled after each set to keep everything standardised

All of the pellet variations seem to be just as accurate with very very little difference between them (group size) all still one hole

They do however out of my gun (like any other pcp I'm sure this will vary) seem to group with very small changes in poi (all groups and pellets were in the bullseye)

1st pellet (on right of op picture)
Dead center of bulleyes one hole group (30yds) cricket has been shooting these

2nd pellet (middle of photo)
slightly higher on the bullseye also one hole group (30yds)

3rd pellet (left of photo)
Slightly right on the bullseye still a one hole group (30yds)

I will measure ctc later of each group to see exact sizes and stretch out to 50-75yds and see if any change again but to the naked eye all still seem just as tight of a group with a slight change in impact

All chronographed a few of each with no change from the original staying in the 950s just as the rest

Anyway I will include photos and measurements where needed but I hope maybe this will help with some worry about the different variations

++Thanks for doing all that research!
Lot #'s...
These are the ones I got from AoA after EBR last year. They are the far left in the earlier pictures.

These were bought in August of 2017 from AoA. These would be the 4th variation I found.

Yes, within the same tin they are consistent. But, from tin to tin they can be quite different.
Are those JSB's? I don't mean to pick on your pellets but, I see a few chipped skirts in there that look like they might be factory.

These subtle changes happen without warning or any known timeline. So, if your pellet/rifle combination is in harmony and then you mix in a slightly different pellet, all of a sudden your poi changes and you have no idea why.
Worse is if these different pellets get mixd up together. They both may shoot equally accurate but, they hit at different poi's. So, now your chasing a wandering poi and thinking it's your rifle/scope/settings,barrel, etc. and it's really just another variation tossed into the mix that you didn't pick up on.

I opened a new tin of 25.39 that I just ordered last week from one of the top suppliers. I found them trashed. Most were star shaped skirts and 1/3 of them looked like they were cut off a stringer with side cutters. A bad die maybe? The tin was not dented at all. The other several tins were fine. I do have an email in to the company letting them know. Interested what their reply will be. I didn't ask for a refund or replacement. I just wanted them awair of the issue.

More like minor nicks in some skirts, probably from bouncing against each other in the tin. Or handling in general? Not enough to cause any flight problems you can honestly blame on the rifle or pellet? Such minor differences in anything mass manufactured is to be expected in small percentages. I'm a second generation auto worker, repaired machines and such as well. Not all repair tradesmen are created equal.

As far as target shooting goes ...... ANY deformation of the pellet at any location be it head or skirt CAN be detrimental to scoring in the top position!
I ONLY buy pellets from AGD or PA because of their most excellent foam packing. I have NEVER received a single pellet with a bent skirt or deformed from either Company!
The problem with bent pellets occurs mainly when the cans you buy are bundled together touching then the box gets rough treatment in shipment. If a can is bent then damage to the pellets within always occurs. PA and AGD use 1" or more of dense foam around each can with a cardboard spacer between cans.

T3PRanch - Thanks for the insight!
I've almost always got good pellets from PA. I can remember one time that I did not and they were REALLY bad. 75%+ of the pellets in the tin were bashed up. But, I called PA about it and they sent me a new tin right away. And, you're right about the packing. It's closed cell foam and works very well!
"ANY deformation of the pellet at any location be it head or skirt CAN be detrimental to scoring in the top position!" - That's one reason why I keep mentioning in my videos that it's the shooters preference how far they take their sorting.

Hey... That reminds me! I've got another video ready for you guys! ;)

Tom, You have hit the nail on the head with that statement!! We are taking this Air rifle shooting MUCH more to the extreme than our predecessors ever did and other than the 10 meter shooters no one has ever demanded the accuracy we are seeking out of a pellet rifle !! I for one would be willing to pay up for better ammo but unless we tell the MFG's that we are unhappy then I doubt much will happen! JSB has always been considered the top of the line pellets as far as I'm aware but in just the short time I have been shooting I have seen a decrease in quality of the batches I have purchased in the last year or so. J.L.

I've ordered 3 batches of 4 tins of "25.39" grain JSB MATCH, DIAB0L0, EXACT, KING.25, DIAB0L0's within the past 2 months and have found that there is a very noticeable difference in the size and depth of the inside round bottom circle flat by looking down into the skirt. The difference is an infinitely varying depth and size which is virtually impossible to categorize and I dare not weigh them or check the head/skirt sizing! I don't know how to sort them for consistency. I wish for pellets of the same consistency so that I could justify buying them and setting my rifle for them! Am I asking too much to place my pellets where intended out of my $2,500.00 dollar rifle THAT WAS DESIGNED FOR THESE SPECIFIC PELLETS?? Bill.
