ATN X-Sight?

i have one, and its pretty good, i've killed rabbits out to 80 yards, its is definitely good, but not great as far as imagine quality. 50 yards should be impressive. It is a niche product, i've owned mine now for 6-8 months and used it for the first 3 months, then took it off and haven't used it again. It's good if the need comes up to night shoot, but if you are not going to do it often i would recommend purchasing it new, it is expensive. And it is HEAVY, so you will be shooting it bench, bipod, or sticks.

I shoot coyotes at night at 50 yards. I couldn't do what I do without my X-Sight. It has it's issues, but for night hunting, it's the least expensive option. I got mine used for less than half price. Look around for a bargain. There should be plenty if you're patient. It's indeed heavy, so bags or tripod is best. If you get one, get the 3-14, NOT the 5-20. And do get the optional battery pack because it's power hungry and impractical to use on the onboard batteries.

Why not the 5-20? I have had both and prefer he 5-20. Once you use it and get used to the menu, it works great. Like has been said, it IS heavy and definitely a bench scope, at least for me. Ditto on the after market battery. However, you can use any larger capacity battery, like you use for cell phones, that will accept usb cables.

Most prefer the 3-14 because the resolution is a bit better. However, I've never used a 5-20 so I can't say from personal experience. But that seems to be the consensus of most users on the X-Sight Owner's Forum. I suppose if one got used to the 5-20 it wouldn't matter, especially for those who had never used a 3-14. I use mine for at least 4 hours every night on average and I'm happy with it. The firmware is still a little buggy, but the night vision part works well. It's not too bad in the daytime either. If ATN could only fix all the bugs it would be fairly priced for what it does. If the original poster wants to hunt at night, I'd say GO FOR IT.

"sirk"imagine if you had AAA batteries in you mobile phone. enough said.
I don't know what that means.

My X-Sight runs fine for a couple of hours on KentLi LION batteries. They are expensive and won't get me through a whole night but they are sufficient for my needs. Some folks swear that the scope needs the larger batteries because it maxes out current on the smaller form factor batteries. They say that is one of the problems with the firmware locking up from time to time.

My experience with the sight and ATN themselves leads me to disappointment with the company. I've had personal communications with the CEO and the head of sales. Neither of them has demonstrated any personal knowledge of the shooting sports. The developers who are doing the firmware are very poor about quality control AND updates and patches are damn slow to come out.

I would not recommend the product to anyone who intends to use it heavily in the field, day or night. It is built like a tank but the firmware still sucks and has not really gotten much better over time.
