airguns and turkeys.

As long as you can do a head shot it'll be lights out. I've taken 2 huge birds within seconds of each other with a 20 fpe break barrel, a Benjamin Limited Edition NPS .22. Love the stealth of air guns. The 1st one dropped then the 2nd waddled over to see what his problem was. I've also taken 3 with my Mrod .25 cal. Don't take the shot unless you KNOW you can hit them in the head. I've unloaded a .22 LR pistol at very close range high velocity hollow points with body shots and the damn bird still took off!

This turkey was taken with a head shot, using the .22 Air Arms TX200 and H&N Baracuda Green 12.65gr pellet at 23 yards. Muzzle energy was approx. 14.88 ft/lbs. The Air Arms S510 is more than capable of doing the job. I believe that there are only 3 states that allow an air rifle to be used for turkey hunting - CA, MD and VA. Thanks XARUS, I have edited the list.

Headshots with s510 .22 work no problems. They do flop a little but are definitely dead on the spot. My woods are a little thick so my furthest with that gun is about 63 yards. Mines the AA 30th anniversary version spitting JSB 18gr @ 915. Now that you mention it, I think I have another week left for Spring season. Haven't seen any around this Spring :-(

They taste great smoked but are very lean compared to farm raised. I inject mine with clarified butter and sage, put on a rub of pepper, kosher salt, onion and garlic powder. Smoke with apple wood at 225 degrees with apple juice in the drip pan til the beast hits 165. Pretty close to 5ish hours. Yum!
