Airgun pellet test

Thanks. My favorite hollow point would have to be the Polymags. I've tested the H&N Hunter Extreme and crow magnums, but the Polymags keep their accuracy at a longer range. 30 yards is about the max range I'd use the H&Ns at and the Polymags I would have no issues with taking out to 60 or 70 yards. They are expensive, but once you've found a rifle they work in, they are worth every penny.

Helimech, have you ever tried the Polymags with the tips removed? I've heard they actually have a better BC with the tips removed, plus they expand better. I just bought a tin of the .30s. I'm going to try them with the tips removed so I can use them in my FX Impact .30 mag. I loved the Polymags in my P-Rod. I've been using JSB 50s in my Impact. They shoot tight groups, but usually just pass right through game; not a lot of stopping power.

Helimech, thanks for that :). The tin of Polymags I bought (I just received notice that they've shipped!) is only 100 ct, so it won't take too long to use them up. It'll still be enough to run a mag's worth over my Chrony, see how they group, and calculate BC. I've heard so many conflicting reports on the efficacy of using the Polymags with the tips removed that I really need to just see for myself. Although I tend to monkey around too much with ballistics, me thinks.

Since I tend to take head shots, I should just be happy with using the JSBs or FXs. The uber-accuracy and power of the FX Impact .30 is the reason I bought 'er anyway. But, I'm always looking for an edge, ya know? I'll take all the advantage I can get! I'll let you know the results of my field testing :)

Helimech, well I finally ran the full Monte on the Polymag 30s w/ the tips removed; and I couldn't be happier! They exhibit a BC of 0.042, compared to a BC of 0.022 f/ the JSB 50s. I am getting commensurate groupings as w/ the JSBs throughout the effective range. I am certainly dropping more game; no more of this "direct hit and the rabbit just runs away" crap! I have finally found my ideal hunting round for the 30 cal :)
