Airgun Gear show info

I know this is a predominantly US forum but if anyone watches the Airgun Gear show videos you may have read on other forums about the SMK competition incident..

If not, a bit of background.. SMK offered some items (inc guns etc) for Giles to review in his 12 days of Xmas videos. The items were to be used as prizes in a competition.

After the draw took places bits of info trickled on to the forums about SMK possibly not honouring the prizes and Giles having to buy them. Obviously much speculation ensued..

I made a suggestion (if it were true) that we could donate a small token to help cover the cost. Remember Giles does this as a hobby! But there was still speculation about the exact info.

I managed to track him down and the below is a copy of the update I have just written.

Right chaps, some solid information from the man himself..

I sent a message through Facebook messenger and Giles just phoned me.

Absolute gentleman and we've chatted about the situation for 15 minutes, literally just got off the phone.

He has indeed had to pay for all the competition entries except the pellets and the targets!

In my message I said about us making a donation which (as I expected from his persona) he said he wouldn't take (well what gent would?)

I told him there was no discussion on the matter (as I knew he'd decline) but I just wanted confirmation that he'd actually had to pay! He indeed spent circa £1000 out of his own pocket to honour the prizes, has had two days off work (remember this is his hobby) and had a few sleepless nights over this and had to sort and ot for RFD sending etc in which Braces have been great too.

He was absolutely overwhelmed by the support and wanted me to post thanking everyone here and other forums (so I will paste elsewhere)

I said the donation will be going ahead.

Anyone wanting to donate can do so to [email protected]

On a side note, I did say it was more a token that we support him and want him to keep up the good work. He said he's not going anywhere and has many exciting new videos coming this year for us to all enjoy!

Sorry for the long winded post chaps but thought it of some interest as I know a lot of you follow Giles on YouTube!

I have already donated £20 and anyone who wants to 'check me out' can on me for my personal details. I am on YouTube as Mr Airgun (search Colibri videos) and on dozens of forums as jameswrx. I am a company director and happy to pm my details to anyone concerned.

Thank you scrane.

I really hope the online community gets behind him on this.

As I said above he was quite taken back about the fact we'd do something like this.

I was more concerned that a kick like this may make him question why he bothers with the YouTube videos. What better way to show our support!

I have already donated £20 and I'll happily keep everyone updated. Any donation is great.

I did say to him I don't expect to get to the money it's cost him but obviously if it does I'll cut off the threads.

I'll the threads a few days on various forums for the members to see then maybe we can agree on a cut off time thereafter.

SMK are the importers and distributors in the uk of many cheaper guns and accessories.

Surprised you've not seen the Airgun Gear Show vids Michael? Even Ted has cropped up in one of his vids from what I remember seeing, when Giles came over the pond!

Please let's not get all "proceed with caution" like I'm about to run off with everyone's token donations, it's been a real pleasure today despite the fact I've spent my entire Saturday (one of only two days a week I see my son) sorting stuff out on various forums and speaking to people.

As I say, anyone that wants my info can ask. Also if you look on Airgun gear show Facebook page Giles has posted a statement of facts and about the phone call with me today (must admit that was odd speaking to someone I've watched hours of YouTube vids on)

The Airgun community has got behind him in support and a video will no doubt be made in our honour of either another competition or a charity donation. But as I told him, that's down to him to decide on.

I've watched all his vids and with what's happened I thought it may make him think twice about doing them. I told him this and said the reason I wanted to do it was by way of support and he was made up knowing we would do that. Luckily he's not going anywhere and has some real gems coming up this year for us!

It could be, pretty much anything " XS " or what was the Tech Force line ( compasseco airguns ) the "B" stuff aka B-3, B-2, and naturally the QB line whether TF, QB, Beeman, some "Remington" , other, made in the same facotory or by same company and makrekd SMK seem to be under agreement in the UK ( elsewhere ? ) to all be marked or marketed by "SMK". Most of the better "SMK" rifles are available here say the QB78/79 now a "Beeman" product. Harder to find the B2 a breakbarel even the Cummings truck tool sale wouldn't carry.

Wow!

Thank you very much!

Made my day (and it's my birthday)

I've also donated my own (boxed new) synthetic browning X blade and postage too which I've had one offer of £95 ukp so far. So anyone on here in the uk, cool little shrouded springer which comes with open sights too.. Could be yours, and a donation too!!

Thank you to everyone that has donated.

I can't wait to let him know at the weekend what everyone has been so generous to offer!

Thank you again people, I'm chuffed!

Anyone else want to get involved, please do so as it'll be great when he does a video in honour of you all!

Just going to bump this for the last time guys with a few words, or mainly two..

Thank You!

All the people that have donated or sent wishes to Giles, thank you thank you!!

Thanks to the forum admin too. I'll be letting Giles know of the forums who's members have helped out.

I'm closing donations off at 10am UK time Saturday morning, what's that around 5am Saturday for you guys?

I'll also be closing my auction for the browning X blade I donated then too (for any uk members here that want one)

I think Giles will be made up and you should be proud of your efforts. First donation I had.. Via this forum! Biggest two monetary donations I've had.. Via this forum!

And also, thanks for the kind words some have sent to me for sorting this out! My Mrs is always saying I need to stop helping other people! But one day my time will come (he hopes haha)

Hi guys, spoke to Giles on the phone Friday and managed to get an email address for PayPal. I have sent the donation to him and also the details of the donators and any comments too.

Look out for a video in the future on the subject.

He also ok'd me to paste up this email he sent me..

Dear James, I am on a family visit today, so will call you next week. What can I say, shocked, amazed…..just wow.

Never did I think that people out their would donate to help me out. You donated a rifle of your own, thats incredible, I don’t quite know what to say.

I have a couple for declines on the prizes, because of the circumstance, and I am contacting them as soon as I get back to tell them the details and express that they must take them now, they are sat here and I have paid for them.

Yesterday, I also received a £100 donation direct to me from Sportsmatch UK, the scope mount makers, that was a complete surprise from Matt the owner of Sportsmatch.

I would make a video and post it today on the iPhone, but actually don’t think I could hold it together if I am honest. I have dealt with the debt personally and kind of accepted it as a lesson and moved on. So as I said before I cannot take all the money, I just could not do that.

So what do you think of the following. My daughter has a heart condition, born with it ( SVT ) which requires continuous treatment, she does fundraisers through the school for the British Heart Foundation. The school would accept the a donation for the BHF

Marie Curie does a fantastic job, I lost my Mum to cancer, and I know they have just helped Terry Doe. Terry I am sure would pass the a cheque onwards.

My wife puts up with a lot, so I must not forget her. She deserves maybe a night away or some of the money back. So maybe split whatever the total is 3 ways, how does that sound? If you have any other charity to support please say so.

I will of course make a video to thank everyone for what they have done, and yes please forward the details of anyone you have who has donated.

And finally Thank You to you, I am stunned by the kindness of the world. Thank You. Giles

That's nice. Airgunners are the very nicest folks around. Field Target is the only " competition" I have ever attended where the very first day no one seemed like a competitor but rather much more like Family. The wonderful people involved in airguns is another reason they are so much fun. Nice of you nto post an update also.
