Airgun Depot's Long Rangers

"Tominco"Well, here's my entry.
Got every 50yards from 50 to 250 before I realized that 50 and 100 don't count.
Used the FX Crown for 150+. That 250 yard shot took me 2 shooting sessions to hit. I think that's the first time I've ever shot at that range.
sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, sighter, go for it...miss... HIT!
Winds were really playing games with me. Any slight breeze would toss that pellet waaaay off.
Good luck everyone!
Tom
Here it is in writing... I'll give the rifle to my Wife, if I win.
NICE SHOOTING! I loved seeing your reaction. It feels so fricken awesome seeing that powder white mist doesn't it?! There are a lot of dudes out there in their submission videos that act like this isn't hard and they are just that good (sniper wanna be types). Get fricken pumped and show it! It literally feels like hitting a NCAA final four buzzer beater shot or draining a 40 foot putt at the Masters. Nice work my friend!

Holy Smokes, I did it. No 350 yard shot, but (**edit, measured w/ tape) 480' = 160 yards w/ a stock out of the box Impact .30.

I have a plat in DXF and according to my CAD system it's 170 yards. I paced it off and got 160 paces. When wifey gets home I'll take an official measurement with a 100' tape, but I'm clearly past the contest minimum.

I can probably get another 10-15yds by moving the target into the treeline and me out to the road's edge, but that's about it on my property.

I did not have an exploding golf ball and it won't be here until Wednesday August 30th at the earliest (yea, cutting it a little close), so I did like Greggers did and filled a plastic egg with baby powder. I probably have to repeat this w/ a real exploding AGD ball to get entered for an impact, but I'm in the zone now.

My first shot was at 6 holdover was still in the dirt so I moved up to the very limits of the scope and that still wasn't enough so had to move my zero about ten clicks up to get the bottom holdover on the bull. At first I went 20 clicks and that was too far.
Took me about 10 shots to get zeroed in.

My vid is from start of sighting in to walking up to inspect the busted egg, so I've got some editing to do.

It was fun!

here's the vid

**edit, with wifey's help I measured w/ a 100' tape. Got 480' for today's shot. When I get the exploding ball and reshoot, I'll push the target back to the trees and move my table out to the road for 520' = 173.3 yards. That's all I've got here unless I go diagonally then pellets could go into my neighbor's yard and he's 'funny'.

So after trying to cut more dead trees, brush and hanging limbs past my 175 yard range...I'm done. I can't go any further without climbing old pines and trimming branches. Im too old for that. Too dangerous. So I went to my neighbors house who has an awesome range in his yard. He only shoots powder burners but maybe I will convert him. haha. He has cleared his yard out to approximately 275 yards for horses but then changed his mind and shoots there instead. He said no problem. I can shoot off the deck whenever I want, even when he and the wife are at work. Awesome. So hopefully I will get up there soon and try for 200 and 250. I will take pics and video. Cant wait. I have some more golfball coming in the mail. If they don't make it before I leave I will use my ping pong balls filled with powder for fun. Oh and they work pretty good too. I tried one last weekend. Man if I lived up there full time I would be eating Ramen noodles for every meal just to afford pellets.

Golf ball finally showed up from AGD w/ some pellets and I got the chance to try again today.

My wife and I measured it w/ a tape the other night (no range finder here) and got 520' to the edge of the road. So I parked my truck across the road so I'd have something to put the camera on and set my table in the middle of the street. 175+ yards. When the mail lady came by I had to move, lol. Talk about getting funny looks.

Had trouble today, pretty windy this AM and I couldn't see where my pellets were hitting the plywood and couldn't get on the target. So then I added a big sheet of cardboard in hopes this would let me see the point of impact thru the scope. It did, but I had two screws holding the ball up and the thickness of the cardboard flexing was enough to knock the ball down every time.

So I got some double sided tape and stuck the ball in place, but then the camera battery died and it takes like 2 hours to charge. Meanwhile the forecast is for rain.

W/ a charged battery and FX Impact .30 I went for one more try. The wind calmed down and I was actually seeing the points of impact. Took me 7 shots, but when I nailed it I nailed it dead center.

Must admit, it was a lot harder than my previous attempt at 160 yards. It was a lot of fun seeing what the gun can do.

Not a lot of energy left at that distance though, it's not even going thru a sheet of 3/4" plywood. I think it would punch right thru at closer distances. Pellet was fully embedded w/ some damage to the far side, but not going thru.

Here's the 175 yard shot, and yea, I'm terrible at video editing.
Sorry for those of you who sit thru all 6 minutes of that. Skills editing vid, not so much.

AirGunDepot.com just updated the Leaderboard and the 350 yard Texan .357 Big Bore takes the lead!

I don't know if this shot will stand till the end of the day today to take the top spot when the dust settles, but it doesn't really matter as I have learned so much from you all over the past month! Watch here:

I hope they keep going with this challenge or some other similar challenge to bring the airgun community together like this one has. They are still selling exploding AGD balls on their website - so who knows - maybe there is going to be a Long Ranger round 2?
