A day I'll always remember (graphic, yet heart warming)

Took my 15 year old boy out hunting for the first time today. He's a great shot, been shooting off and on for years but never had the urge to punch anything but paper. Too busy with High School Bass tournaments!

Squirrel hunting is not as easy as he thought it'd be. I guess he was picturing a furry shooting gallery or something, haha. After a couple of rookie mistakes he locked on to one WAY up in a giant oak. Patiently waited for the right shot and took it. The fall from 60-70 feet made quite the THUD. Perfect shot right through the heart (see pic) with a 24 grain TWENTY cal at 990 fps. Was great seeing him take his first squirrel with an air rifle I've enjoyed for so many years.

Well look at me babbling on like a proud father! I'll shut up now, here's a couple pics.

Great to see you in the woods with your son. I envy you. My kids are grown and too busy working to go hunting and fishing with me anymore. The Grand kids are all into School, Scouts, Band and girls. I do have the pleasure of getting to watch my Grand Daughter shooting tournament archery. She still comes by the house on occasion, grabs one of the Air Rifles and sits at my shooting bench with me to ring the gong or the cow bell at 75 yards.

"crittahitta"Your a lucky man. When I grew up I was the only one in my family interested in shooting and hunting. Now I have my own family figuring I will definitely get them involved. Nope! So Im happy for you and a little bit jealous. Oh and those squirrel are pretty big.
Thank you all. Haven't wanted to force hunting on him, hoping he'd eventually come around. As a little boy, he hated the thought of killing and eating the fish he caught (my first clue). I think he realized he's the only one in his bass tournament world that doesn't also hunt! Better late than never. I plan to enjoy every second. Before I know it, I'll be begging HIS kids to hang out with me!
