Wildcat monopod - My WC ditches the bag

No more rear shooting bag for my Wildcat. I'm sure someone has done this before me. I drilled the stock of my Wildcat to fit a length of all thread and installed a threaded insert. I found a round plastic knob at the hardware store and - Wildcat monopod

The shape of the Wildcat stock was always a bit of a pain to deal with when using a rear bag. It did not smoothly adjust elevation by sliding the bag forward and back. I would get hand cramps during longer shooting sessions from squeezing the bag. Now I merely turn the knob in or out a bit to change POI elevation. First time shooting with the new setup I noticed right away that the vertical grouping on POI was tighter.

Thanks, but I'm just adapting the idea from the aftermarket Impact stocks. The first one I made using a carriage bolt and a rubber stopper (edges ground down). 

Later found the plastic ball which is lighter and a closer match to the stock's finish.

This is the threaded insert I used (Home Depot).

Hardest part and what made me nervous was drilling the hole. The hole needs to be far enough forward to clear the screws that attach the butt pad but not too close to the front. I angled the hole to parallel the butt pad. I drilled to a depth about 5/8" short of the top of the stock. Drill the threaded rod hole first (I used 1/4x20). Drill same hole slightly larger to the depth of the threaded insert (5/16). I made a jig that I screwed to the butt plate after removing the pad - I do not own a drill press.

Be careful when you screw in the insert so that it does not snag or wrinkle the soft touch coating on the stock.

Yup, figured someone had already done it. I made several searches in the forum/net but never came across your post. I'm going to add "Wildcat monopod" to the first post for anyone else looking like I was.
