Tuning Taipan plenum extention mod?

While installing a new plenum on my Taipan veteran long I noticed the walls of the plenum extention are very thick. Much thicker than the walls of the air tube. 

The inside seams not much bigger than a AA battery. Could some of this material be safely removed for more volume?

I'm interested to hear some Taipan tuners thoughts on the matter.

I personally wouldn’t do that. You are going to weaken the aluminum and not gain much air space. You would be better off buying another plenum and stacking them. I have stacked them before and honestly there isn’t much of a gain after one plenum. Are you looking to increase power or air volume?

Don't mess with pressure vessels and removing material.

I am looking to increase power. I use the rifle for nrl22. It does great with accuracy but I can't get the pendulum to spin all the way around. I took the photo while adding a second plenum but you know how it is always wanting more lol

I believe that is incorrect, the air tube on my Veteran Standard seems to be aluminum... a magnet will not stick to it.

You are correct steel and aluminum can not touch without causing corrosion

See, you learn something every day. I’ve had a Taipan for 5 years and always assumed the tube was steel because the guns dead weight. I’m sure if the gun was problematic and I had to work on it all the time, I would have figured out the tube wasn’t steel.

I'm guessing that the engineers designed it like that for a reason. I'm sure the found the best combo of air volume and material strength. I wouldn't touch it. The potential consequences aren't worth the limited increases.

I guess my next step is to up the regulator pressure. It falls off around 140 bar. I'd like to up it to 150 bar.

Does anyone make a pressure tester that will work for Taipan regulator?

Earnest Rowe or Talon Tunes might get you started in right direction. Otherwise little by little if you have more time than $$.
