Sound Measuring device?

I bought a not so cheap chinese sound meter but it isn't fast enough to capture the correct peaks.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a device that functions well enough to do the job. Please don't say something like Larson Davis or other devices that cost 5k.

Pheelgood this link takes you to the one I have which has fast and slow response, weighted metering and a hold function to record the highest DB reading taken so you do not have to watch the meter, google it and you should be able to find the same one at a better price. I had a much more expensive one that died on me, but this one was giving me very similar readings, they were within about 1db of each other, so it is fairly accurate, Neil.
