What is the cocking mechanism like on the Vulcan? Is it a smooth one finger operation like my FX or more of a whole hand force like my marauder? Are other high end guns butter smooth like the FX, because it's one of my favorite features?

Air arms definitely, and especially the Steyr Hunter 5 has a one finger cocking mechanism. I use my trigger finger without let go of the grip, and it goes fast, and is very smooth. ................. I believe other members will chime in on their favorites.

I just traded my Vulcan.25 for the FX Wildcat.25 and the Wildcat is definitely easier to cock. The Vulcan took about a tin or two of pellets to cycle smoother but it's definitely a one hand deal not a one finger deal. But the cocking mechanism is very robust and strong on the Vulcan.

Thanks TKA87. That first hand experience is what the forum is all about. I like the size of the Vulcan, but a smooth light operating action is critical to me. You can see in videos posted that some guns require a lot of force. It is great to have an easy smooth action for additional targets. I've been very impressed with FX in that regard.

The Vulcan has no "mechanical advantage" unlike the FX guns. I have a Vulcan and have handled the Bobcat and the Wildcat, the FX is buttery smooth compared to the vulcan, simply due to the vulcan is a simple bolt that moves straight back and forward. The FX is a lever with mechanical advantage. I will say this, that I have over 2000 rounds thru my vulcan and have to say that if you put a little silicone (food grade) on the pellet probe to lubricate the breech oring the action gets a lot smoother.....More like hard butter than soft butter like the FX.
Comparing the Marauder to the Vulcan would not be fair either. The Marauder (.25) that I have is a lot rougher to cock than my Vulcan. Big difference in price as well.

Its not really smooth But it Gets The Job done. If you start shooting fast its no problem at all. I've never shot a side lever gun but I really wanted one. The vulcan took the cake for about everything but the bolt for me which I can happily live with. When you first receive the gun it can be ridiculesly hard but it smoothens out pretty quickly.

The Vulcan will never be as smooth as an air arms, cricket, bobcat or wildcat. It just wont.

daystate pulsar. easiest by far, for sure!! airwolf close second! reason being that you're NOT cocking back a hammer and spring. just moving a pellet probe back then forward, chambering the next pellet. if pellets fits in the barrel nicely, then it should truly be a one finger operation.

i also have a vulcan tactic 25. cocking is pretty easy. but loading h&n barracudas is a pain sometimes. jsb king chambers fine.
