RWS 34 better front sight

I am a lifelong firearms enthusiast and recently purchased an RWS 34 T06 .22 cal to replace and identical air rifle I shot back in the 80's. I put a William's Target Foolproof with a .050 1/2 aperture on the rifle and, I do not like the plastic front sight.

I've been out of the loop for a while so go easy!

If I remove the plastic sight/ramp -- what metal replacement front sight/base can I install on that barrel? .622" 15.81mm diameter just behind the existing plastic.

I should also mention that any day now, a Gehmann 510 adjustable iris will be showing up for this rifle, but I have no clue what front sight base I can install. If anyone has any advice I would be grateful.

Sorry I can't help you with the sights but I can recommend a Vortek PG2 spring kit for it, made a different rifle out of mine.

+1 on the Vortek PG2. Even if you don't, I would recommend taking the gun apart and checking the lube as these guns are known for being shipped with little or no lube. Mine was that way and it caused significant galling in the upper back portion of the compression tube. Took a lot of sanding and polishing of the tube and piston to fix that problem. Been performing like a champ for a year and a half since. I also went with Krytox GPL-205 grease to eliminate any dieseling.

I don't have experience with the RWS 34 but many air rifles have dovetail slots in the muzzle to mount a front sight. The newer model 34s have the plastic sight-not sure if it's molded on or is easily removable. If there are dovetails in the barrel under the plastic you're in business-otherwise you'll need to figure out another way.

I believe if you remove the plastic sight on the 34, there is still (I have an older 34 with the metal globe sight) a dovetail on the end of the barrel. If that's the case, this globe sight should fit.

Thank you - all I need now is a metal sight post to go in the TruGlo globe, because plastic just looks fuzzy to me.

I have a William's Target Foolproof on the back that now has a Gehman iris and now the front sight is so clear I can see the deformities in the plastic! I hate plastic.

I just remove the sights on my 34 TO6 and there isn't a dovetail in the barrel, just a small flat milled at an angle on the end. I agree the front sights are junk and better suited for a artillery piece. You may be able to use a piece of aluminum and make a insert to your liking.
