Rookie mistake I think....I need some help!

Hey Guys,So recently I purchased a Hawke Vantage SF 6-24 scope and the Beeman 5030H 1″ rings to go on my Discovery.I KNOW this is a lot of scope for this gun but I wanted to buy a nice scope before I bought a nicer gun. Now here is my issue:I can’t adjust the vertical turret down far enough to zero the gun on the cross hairs. I am zeroed at a 2 mil-dot holdover at 30 yards. Is this something that can be fixed by buying shorter scope rings? Or did I just buy way too much scope for the gun?
