Range Finder recommendatation

Do you guys use Range Finders when sighting in or hunting? If so Im looking to see what type may be recommended. Im not looking to spend a lot of money, but still looking for something that can be counted on.

i bought one on amazon its a HALO XRT6 and works good for me.

Don’t know if there’s a better option, but I just bought a Nikon Aculon. It was about $170 retail. Very reliable and more range that I will ever need.

HI I used a simmons 400 yard works fine I can sell it for $45 shipped , I upgraded it to a leica 1600 yard unit last year , which is a great unit , The leica also does baro , angles and temp , A range finder is really helpful when hunting with airgun a they drop alot ,I have used all kinds of range finders and few will actually range what they claim , I would say the best one I ever used is called Vectronix but a unit like the Leica and Vectronics are a bit of overkill for pcp guns , It is a good tool to have . and if you want to spend a bit more go with a true range or angled one , but even an entry one like the simmons works fine for this

I have a Simmons LRF600 that I paid maybe $60 for and it works great for what I need. You can spend a lot or a little on one it all depends on what features you need but the inexpensive ones work good.

Mine is a Halo XL450, which is good enough for what I do. Have only measured it out to about 200 yds, but it was right on at that distance.

I have an older Leupold RX-600 that I've been using for about 10 years. Still works great and i use it every time I shoot. Eventually, I want to upgrade to a Leica rangefinder but the Leupold does what I need it to do for now.

Why a Leica? What does the Leica do that the Leupold can't?

My guess is MUCH longer range ability and more accurate. Also many of the more costly ones also serve well as binoculars.

Hunting groundhogs at longer ranges nice to have the expensive ones. Using strictly for air guns I don’t see the need

Whichever rangefinder you choose, I recommend one with red LED display. When target shooting, the LCD (black letters) show up fine, but when in dim forest light against a mixed background, I can't see them. The red LED displays can be read against just about any background.

Agree. Seems that for air gun use only many of the rangefinders available would serve well. The bowhunting version seems like it might be well suited for airgunners. I have a compact Leica 1200. Fits in shirt pocket and will range deer/cattle on a clear day to nearly 1000 yards and larger or reflective targets well beyond 1200 yards. Certainly not needed for air gun use only but nice to have. I've read that the new Nikon Black is even better.

I’m using a sig kilo2200mr I’m really impressed with the speed and accuracy. I was gonna get a kilo 1250 but caught this on sale. It will range 4times a second and is much nicer then my older bushnel. I think for the money sig is hard to beat.

You can get relatively cheap laser range finders suitable for use at airgun ranges. I would recommend you get one with a tilt function. It's something I use far more often hunting than I anticipated. You really need it for proper balistic calculations at longer ranges.

 I have the bushnell bone collector 4x 21mm camo it's good from 10 to 600 yards for reflective surfaces, 400 yards tree type areas and 200 yards for deer. I got it on sale at Walmart a year ago. Walmart has it online for 136.95 and free shipping. I can't remember what I paid for it but it was less then that price. it has worked great for me.

I have a Sig Sauer Kilo850 (lower end version) and I love it! I use it to sight in and hunt with. Has never let me down and it's very accurate. Pretty much hunting blind without it.

I would agree, Sig Saur Kilo range finders are the best money can buy. However, I like the Sig Saur Kilo 2200MR as its display is red colored which is very helpful when the ranging backgroud is dark, such as in trees etc. Display auto adjusts the brightness as per the ambient light. It has a built in angle compensation which is a must have feature when hunting long range.
