I want to buy another springer. A break barrel with iron sights. A gas ram gun. So of course I'm looking at the 340 N TEC and the HW 90. I am a bit concerned over a bit of bad feedback on the Diana gun since the new company took over. On the other hand perhaps the HW is just too much on the 'magnum' side. I was ready to pull the trigger on one or the other today but when I called AoA they were closed for training. Perhaps the protecting angels were keeping me from making a wrong choice.

I've read some of Jones' thoughts on the N TEC and read all the glowing feedback on the HW 90 over on PA. B.B. Peletier loved the 340. I'd sure like to hear from anyone here if you have any thoughts.

Additionally ... anyone have any intel on the 350 N TEC? 55 lbs cocking effort. I probably don't want to take that on. Unless I found they are better than the 340.

You have the tx which is a heavy rifle? Why not look at something lite? For me open sights are not going to be on a bench so I try to go a little lighter than some of the "monster" rifles. I'm not going to recommend any certain rifle but I would look for something that shoots around 800 fps.(you can slow down faster with heavier pellets). Easy to cock and carry. And plan on shooting it so much that when you bring it too your shoulder you KNOW where it is going to hit. And that part of it takes thousands of shots but think of the fun taking those shots are going to be. Plan on upgrading the trigger to make that "knowing" where the rifle will hit work. ;)

I owned the HW90 and it was solid as a rock, built with quality materials and fashioned with old world workmanship. It yearned to be taken on the hunt and was certainly capable of delivering the quarry. The HW90 is not a target rifle, it is a hunting rifle. I chronographed all of the .22cal 18 grain pellets Pyramyd Air had to offer. The highest standard deviation was 4fps and the lowest was 2fps. This is a testament to the outstanding quality of the Theoben gas ram system used in this rifle. The most accurate pellet was the Air Arms Diabolo Field Heavy at 20 ft/lbs with a standard deviation of 3fps. I loved being able to cock this rifle for extended periods of time while stocking my quarry. I also appreciated the safety which was quick and easy to reset. The cocking force of this rifle was brutal and required me to use both hands. She is a long gun at about 46", kicks like a horse and when scoped weighed-in at just over 11lbs. Once you find the best hold for the gun it is both accurate and deadly. The HW90 is not a rifle that I would choose for a day of target shooting. However, it was an excellent hunting rifle. (My HW90 was stolen out of the trunk of a marked emergency vehicle while in Phoenix).

I had a BSA lightning XL in .22 for a while, it was a great shooter but needed a tune and I didn't want to go there. They're light, compact, powerful and easy to shoot well in my experience. They are now available in the GRT gas ram version, might be worth a look.

I didn't expect to get much feedback on this. Few own either of these two examples. Thanks guys for your thoughts.

Stop me if I'm getting into trouble. Please. Speak up. I will probably pull the trigger on the Weihrauch gun today. I've gone back and forth and forth and back but it comes down to two things. Killing power and concern over quality. The 90 is too heavy but I'll just have to deal with that.

I have both the 340 N-Tec .177 and the HW90 in .20. Bottom line- the HW90 is a beast. Is it heavy?..absolutely. Cocking effort is ridiculous too. The Elite trigger is one of the best in the business. It is built like a tank and will last a lifetime. Pests don't like it much.
That being said, The 340N-Tec is now my favorite break barrel. And I own many quality airguns. I like it so much because it is a really good all around break barrel rifle. It has all the good airgun traits you need like accuracy, weight, looks, quick shot cycle, easy cocking, little recoil, handles easy, even packs some decent power. The trigger was the only hang up I had when I first took it out of the box. Now it has broken in very well and the rifle has no faults in my opinion.
I like it so much that I am also looking to acquire the 350N-Tec or the AR8 from Diana very soon. Good Luck with your purchase.
