Looking for competitions in central Indiana.

I'm new to airguns, and have started getting my family shooting as well. I'm looking for competitions or even just well organized/structured shoots in the central Indiana area. My dad, wife and myself want to look at competing, and want some local competition to learn on before thinking of trips to Utah and/or Arizona for such big events. We currently have FX Impact Xs in .30 cal, so benchrest is really appealing right now. However, part of the appeal of the Impact was interchangeable caliber, so if changing over to .22 to try Field Target (know very little on FT right now) is what we have to do, it's an option.

Primarily looking to find some organized airgun competition activities in our area. Anybody know of any clubs or activities in central Indiana, or somewhat close?

Thanks.

Seems like Indiana is a growing area of interest for Airgunners. The closest events to you would be the Central Ohio Airgunners in Columbus, Ohio. To get the most out of a trip I would suggest attending the Midwest Airgun Show June 15th. 100+ tables, Field Target match, Gunslynger competition and an open range. Events go both Saturday and Sunday with the show only going on Saturday.

The club itself has monthly events. No benchrest yet, but that not to say they can’t add it if the interest is there. They have a Facebook group to join that they stay active on and update with upcoming events as well as discussions on fixes and general Airgun topics.

Sounds like we need a club in Indiana. Build it and they will come. Find an established Muzzleloading Club or another Shooting club and propose the idea. Let them know that by bringing in Airgunners you will help with their finances with new members and charging for events. After 3 years our events bring in more than the Muzzleloading events now, even with a smaller number of yearly memberships.

Hi Chuck

I am a part of a small group of shooters that get together every Sunday morning for informal competition. Winter we shoot in barn 10m paper targets. To keep interest up shoot from different positions different size targets. Summer we have two outside private ranges, one has max distance of 125yr the other 100yr. We use very small targets (22 rim fire castings) up to golf ball size. Some targets are moving (targets hung from over head wire. There are about 10 shooters in this group. We have a variety of weapons, Rapid Air Weapons, Daystates red wolf wolverines, Gamo's (springers and PCP) Walther, Steyr Dianas, Benjamins, and even a CO2 Crossman. We are located NE of Indianapolis in Albany, IN about half way between indy and Ft Wayne. If you are interested email your phone number and one of us will call you.

I live just north of Terre Haute, IN myself. Are you close to me? I found a group at Riley Conservation Club 6301 E Gross Rd, Terre Haute, IN . They have an indoor range for 10 meter paper targets on Monday Nights in January and February. We had a great time last night. This Sunday I'm going to Linden Conservation Club 611 E 1300 S, Romney, IN where they have a pistol shoot. (never been there before. Both shoots are really designed for .177 I think. As far as Bench Rest Shoots I have not found any in Indiana but I've only been looking for shoots for HFT. They limit to 19 Foot pounds. Plus hitting HFT targets .22 is a disadvantage. .177 is better. The distances are from 10 to 55 yards.I shoot a springer AA TX200 for HFT. Your Impact X might be a great HFT gun in .177 with the right scope. I've found that in my travels to shoots this fall in Tennessee and Ohio you run into a great bunch of guys and gals. Everyone wants to share their experiences which sounds like what you are looking for. SO see if you can setup for 10 meter and HFT or FT and Bench Rest. Have you contacted indiana airguns? 2688 500 N, Anderson, IN 46011 (765) 716-0536 They might help you out too. www.indianaairguns.com

Thanks everyone. Lots of good info here. We'll definitely look into a trip or two as we get settled into shooting and ready to try our hands at competition.

Padd… I live about 5 miles from Indiana Airguns in Anderson. Try to buy there whenever I can. Service is great. I plan to talk to Dennis and see what they have coming up out there. I haven't shot there, but it sounds nice.

Columbus and Kalamazoo sound like a nice Saturday to Sunday getaway for the wife and I.

SPA... Albany is definitely doable. I'll get in touch with someone in the near future.

Chuck26287,

I run the matches at Riley CC that Padd mentioned. Probably too far for the Monday night shoots from Anderson, but I am looking at running a few FT matches when it warms up later this spring. Keep an eye on the FT area here on Airgun Nation. As I will post the FT match dates when I decide to do them. Terre Haute isn't that far for a Saturday morning FT match.

I also agree the Columbus Ohio group runs a good FT match. Been there once and had a great time. Again not too far from Anderson.

I have a buddy here in Terre Haute that is also interested in the Airgun Benchrest shooting, but he doesn't travel much, mainly just shoots in back of his house. So there are a few folks around, just a matter of getting them all together to shoot.

Enjoy.
