Invasive House Sparrow

I've been seeing this guy lately in my yard but he's usually gone by the time I grab my Veteran.

This time he stayed too long. He was taking a dust bath and I got him at about 10yds. I gave him a proper dust bath.

Good job! They need to go for sure. I have a bunch of swallow nesting boxes that I open up and check each spring before they come back to nest. This year only two houses had dead swallow babies killed by English sparrows so I was happy. Last year they got four families. It’s really satisfying to blast a sparrow in front of the swallows, they follow it down to the ground and seem to celebrate the demise of their enemy lol.

I've bagged 8 hosps off of and around my bird feeder since May 2nd. I use a homemade flat topped Crosman 1389 w/ Crosman 7.9 cphp's at 560 fps. What I like is that for every hosp that is removed a cowbird or finch replaces it. They're beneficial to my garden as they eat aphids and other insects that would harm my plants. Cowbirds and hosps are in direct competition w/ each other. I watched a Carolina Wren hop from plant to plant yesterday evening in search of insects.

What's a good kind of seed to spread around on the ground to lure them in for target practice?

Or is it better to put the seed in a plate or feeder. I understand they like to feed from the ground.

This is what I use.

Hill Country Fare Wild Bird Seed (Last bag I got was on sale for $7.77.) I usually put a cup of feed in it every morning.

Morning Song Trail Mix for Songbirds

You can mix the two together or use half & half.

Pennington Blue Cedar Platform Bird Feeder - $11.99

I got the stand for it at Dollar General for $5.00. You can put some feed on the ground if you like. Every kind of bird in your vicinity will be crowding the feeder.
