Don’t know if you guys are aware of this, but it looks like a cool little upgrade for the HP Max’s 👍

Just got my first pcp, an AEA Hp Max 457. I'm really liking it. As far as fpe and accuracy goes. If there anyone out there has had both? Which did you prefer, why?

I have the Hp Max 457 (M50/M457) with the 5" barrel and small air tank (pistol). Have considered the long barrel conversion, but maybe I'll just pick up another one used off the marketplace some time. Great trigger on this thing. I've only shot it about 15 yards but it's hole in hole accuracy with a holo sight. I'm shooting 140-150 grain ammo due to the short barrel. Gets about 130-140 fpe on the 1st shot but surprisingly will run 2 magazines at what I would consider "effective" power levels.

Too bad AEA didn't engineer their valve seats and pins to be indestructible, this would be a near-perfect platform. I've replaced the pin on an HP SS before and it's a 10 minute job, no biggie. Keep a spare just in case or get one of the reinforced ones sold on Ebay.

I am a little surprised AEA hasn't issued a "recall" on those parts like they did with the HP SS magazines at one point (send them in, we send you back fixed/new ones). Even more surprising they're still using the same parts (as far as I know) in the newer models based on the HP Max platform.

I have been seeing which slugs deliver the most energy. Everything was fired in 6 shot groups. Starting at 4500psi. With the last shot being fired at around 3200psi. All of the slugs were shot with a moderator.

Malsonb I see you have the 700 cc bottle on yours. Did you lose any power due to restricted airway in the adapter? I'm thinking about converting mine as well. Flyingsherpa perhaps you might be interested in getting the longer barrel kit from Bintac along with a larger air tube. I had mine out after the conversion and it seemed to be shooting all the lighter stuff I have very hot. I ended up sighting it in with 246 gr lucky seven max velocity slugs just to get on paper.

I have been thinking about going the longer barrel route, but not till I have the 13inch totally dialed in.

I ran the numbers again for the Griffen 200gr Hollow Base Hollow Points. Under the same conditions.
200gr
1. 792 fps 278.64 fpe
2. 778 fps 268.87 fps
3. 754 fps 252.54 fpe
4. 733 fps 238.67 fpe
5. 680 fps 205.4. fpe
6. 659 fps 192.91 fpe
On a few occasions I had a stronger second shot that the first, and on one shot. The second to the last came out higher. Other than that presure drops and very consistent.

I haven't shot my .457 barrel over chrony yet. My .510 barrel was shooting 400 plus with cf bottle and original tank. Fpe was about the same. For my gun it did not restrict any air flow. We currently have a foot of snow and hope to do some testing when the wheather clears.

All my fills when testing .510 barrel were around 4300 psi.
I usually top off. I'm still learning my shot curve. Plus I tend to be more concerned with the pressure not getting too low. Bin at the pellet shop advised me to not go below 3200psi. He said the valve pin will last forever. If I don't let the pressure get too low.
